The Armenpress news agency, quoting the Armenian foreign ministry, reported that Uruguay is the first country in the world to recognize the Genocide in a resolution adopted in 1965. Resolution author Senator Dr. Alberto Sid said that the bill aimed at registering Uruguay's official position on the Armenian Genocide, as a crime against humanity. Sen. Jamado Fau said that the adoption of the resolution, "for a second time affirms justice regarding the Armenian Genocide." The legislature expressed hope that other countries will follow the example of his "small country" and adopt resolutions recognizing the Genocide.
