"Motherland" by Frederic Sogoyan Given to the Red Cross in 1991, it dominates the northeast lawn. "Motherland" is a heroic monument showing the full figure of a mother protectively embracing her child. AVO Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Share Posted January 16, 2008 1988 Leninakan earthquake memorial in Hucknall, England A plaque above this stone cross on the side wall of St mary Magdelene Church in Hucknall. The plaque on the side says: The Khachkar (Armenian stone cross) was presented to Holgate School in 1991 in recognition of the work undertaken by Britain following the devastating earthquake in Armenia of 1988. The Lord Byron School in Guimri in the Republic of Armenia was built to replace one of the destroyed schools and subsequently a link was formed between this new school and the Holgate School Hucknall. The Khachkar is placed here in memory of Father Fred Green. On the side a brass plaque reads To the British People from THE CHILDREN OF LENINAKAN. As a sign of gratitude. Sealed inside it is the skull of an unidentified 12 year old boy, found in the Der-el-Zor desert. Rhode Island has a sizable Armenian community. Ashot Posted January 16, 2008 Report Share Posted January 16, 2008 New Monument of Tigran Petrosyan In Yerevan, in the street named after Tigran Petrosian, a new bust to the 9th World Champion was erected on June 7, 2006. During the solemn ceremony the honor of opening of the bust was given to the Turin Olympiad Champions, members of the Armenian National Chess Team. This is the third monument to the prominent Grandmaster in Armenia. Up to now there has been a bust next to the T.
