Armenian Earthquake Memorial at the Red Cross Bldg in Washington, D.C.

"Motherland" by Frederic Sogoyan

Given to the Red Cross in 1991, it dominates the northeast lawn. "Motherland" is a heroic monument showing the full figure of a mother protectively embracing her child. Frederic Sogoyan, an Armenian sculptor created this gift from the Armenian people to commemorate American Red Cross relief services to survivors of the 1988 earthquake that devastated their country.

1988 Leninakan earthquake memorial in Hucknall, England

A plaque above this stone cross on the side wall of St mary Magdelene Church in Hucknall.

The plaque on the side says: The Khachkar (Armenian stone cross) was presented to Holgate School in 1991 in recognition of the work undertaken by Britain following the devastating earthquake in Armenia of 1988. The Lord Byron School in Guimri in the Republic of Armenia was built to replace one of the destroyed schools and subsequently a link was formed between this new school and the Holgate School Hucknall. The Khachkar is placed here in memory of Father Fred Green.

On the side a brass plaque reads

To the British People

from THE CHILDREN OF LENINAKAN.

As a sign of gratitude.

Benevolent Union

For Children's Sake

Nov 5th 1991

Armenian Genocide memorial in Rhode island

Armenian Martyrs Memorial

This monument is located in Providence's North Burial Ground. Sealed inside it is the skull of an unidentified 12 year old boy, found in the Der-el-Zor desert.

Rhode Island has a sizable Armenian community. A few aged survivors lived through these terrible events, and still mourn the loss of their families..

New Monument of Tigran Petrosyan

In Yerevan, in the street named after Tigran Petrosian, a new bust to the 9th World Champion was erected on June 7, 2006. During the solemn ceremony the honor of opening of the bust was given to the Turin Olympiad Champions, members of the Armenian National Chess Team.

This is the third monument to the prominent Grandmaster in Armenia. Up to now there has been a bust next to the T. Petrosian Chess House in Yerevan, and a memorial in the city of Aparan, in the central square again named after Petrosian.
