Ashot Posted December 31, 2007 Report Share Posted December 31, 2007 President Kocharyan's New Year congratulation Dear compatriots, On the eve of the New Year any of us tries to assess the passing year. We wish to be lucky and avoid misfortunes. We connect hopes with the coming year. Perhaps, that is the reason why the New Year and Christmas are the kindest holidays. Like many of you I celebrate these holidays with my family and friends. However, being the President of the republic, I try to assess how the passing year was for Armenia and our people. I’m doing that the tenth time. I can assert with confidence that the year 2007 was one of the most successful. The activity of the authorities was mainly directed toward reinforcement of security, economy, the social sphere an democracy. The high pace of economic development was maintained, which allowed to provide greater means to social issues, the most important of which is poverty reduction. The effectiveness of our Armed Forces and the capacity to defend the peaceful life of the citizens increased. Armenia’s international involvement and rating steadily improved. The parliamentary elections and their results proved the maturity of our society and the positive perception of the reforms underway in the country. This is the best guarantee that the coming year 2008 will also be successful. We must soberly estimate that there are still many things to be done. Everyday work is needed to overcome the existing challenges. This first of all refers to the improvement of the quality of life. Our citizens deserve a better life. Our country and the Armenian citizenship must be a pride for everyone. We must add the efforts for the development of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic by helping our brothers to build an effective state, a statehood that is able to defend itself. The strengthening of the army will continue to be a priority. Ensuring the security of the country is once of the essential components of progress. We have to remember all those who sacrificed their lives for the peaceful development of the country. We must deepen the involvement of the Diaspora in the development of the country. The Diaspora is the most effective way to maintain the national identity. Dear compatriots, Presidential elections are expected at the beginning of the next year. The proper conduct of these will become a guarantee of stability for the coming five years. Without stability it is impossible to speak about success. I believe in the prosperous future of Armenia and the potential of our people. I wish health, wealth and happiness to your families. Let the New ear become the year of success. Ashot Posted December 31, 2007 Author Report Share Posted December 31, 2007 (edited) PM Serge Sargsyan's congratulation on New Year's Day Dear Compatriots, For the past several years, as I was the Minister of Defense, I used to visit our soldiers on duty at frontier posts on the 31st day of each December in order to thank them for service and extend New Year's congratulations. Now, this has become a tradition to me. Another good tradition is the New Year's address to the nation by the head of government. Today, I have decided to join these two traditions and extend my Season's greetings from the frontier where night and day Armenian soldiers do watch over our peace and where Homeland starts and finishes. The year 2007 is going away. It entered into our history as a period of peace, development and strengthened democracy. We can today push ahead with confidence and think of new programs aiming the future. Our citizens shall be the focus of these programs. We are striving to ensure that economic growth affects the well-being of each of them, there is less poverty, our life is not limited to everyday problems and all our children are happy. We managed to keep up the pace of development throughout the year. Today we have a clearer and more optimistic vision of our country's future day. I am proud that together we are opening up this new chapter of independence, development and progress in our history: our statehood is being increasingly strengthened thanks to our combined efforts and we are moving ahead as a State and a society on the way to maturity. Indeed, success raises enthusiasm. Nevertheless, I assure you that I am well aware of the problems facing our country and our citizens – far more aware than expected. And you may rest assured that none of these problems seems to be unsolvable. Dear Compatriots, New Year has some meaning for all of us. New Year is a holiday of dream. At this point, we are unanimous and united by a single goal: each of us wishes the New Year to bring peace and prosperity to us. I wish that the New Year's joy and happiness prevailed in our homes all the way through the coming year. We are a large family called Armenia. New Year is another opportunity to think of new programs, and we are determined to do everything to ensure that our people have merited employment, young people are given high-quality education, our citizens are in good health and the elderly feel the State's permanent support. In the year ahead, we will continue moving forward closer to the Armenia of our dreams, to the Armenia of ever new achievements. So, onward to new Armenia! May this year bring us accomplishment of dreams! May all of us be blessed with robust health and much success! Be happy! A Happy New Year and a Merry Christmas! It concludes the phase of formation of our country, which was full of difficulties and challenges. Unfortunately, as it is peculiar to countries which overcome such difficulties, in those years we had to direct our main efforts towards the formation of state institutions, creation and development of economic bases, formation of effective legislation and the defense of Artsakh. The successful accomplishment of all this provided the opportunity to start a new phase of development from 2008, the core of which should be our citizen and his family. From now on we can and must focus all our efforts on ensuring education corresponding to international standards, science and culture characteristic of a contemporary state, complete legislation and a fair judicial system, an atmosphere of mutual respect, tolerance, trust and cooperation and prosperous life for every citizen. The elderly must live a secure life in their old age, the young must get support when entering into mature life, the working man must have the opportunity to live a merited life. All this will turn real in just a few years. Dear compatriots, I’m sure that 2008 will be a year of unprecedented success, love and fulfillment of dreams. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
