BEIJING, DECEMBER 26: Days of Armenian Culture in China kicked off yesterday by a gala concert in a Beijing concert hall. Before the official launch of the event an exhibition of works by an Armenian painter Karen Aghamian opened at the Beijing City Library.

Armenian culture minister Hasmik Poghosian, who flew to China for the event, was received yesterday by her Chinese counterpart.

The meeting was attended also by Ms. Hranush Hakobian, chairman of an Armenian parliament committee on culture, education and sport issues and Armenian ambassador to China, Vahagn Movsisyan.

Armenian foreign ministry said the Chinese minister hailed the program of Chinese Culture Days to be held next year in Armenia.

Before arriving in Beijing the Armenian delegation was December 21-23 in the province of Shanci, where they were welcomed by its deputy governor.

Armenia, known as the Caucasian Tiger, is a small country with a rich culture, a country growing rapidly. Marking the 15th anniversary of Sino-Amenian diplomatic ties, a Chinese audience was introduced to the delights of Armenian culture, Tuesday night.

The Pantomime State Theater of Armenia opens the evening with a tale of a conspiracy inside the imperial palace. Exotic music accompanies the story.

 

Laureates at international festivals, bass vocalist Barsegh Tumanyan and soprano Irina Zakian and pianist Arus Achemian introduced the Beijing audience to Armenia's accomplishment in the music arts. Music holds a fundamental role in the Armenian culture. The opera house, the theaters and concert halls are the pride of the people. The houses are highly accessible to the general public.

 

 

 

 

The Armenia Culture Festival in China is being held within the framework of the "Armenian-Chinese Cultural Cooperation 2005-2010" agreement. Ministers of Culture from both countries were at the opening ceremony. Both expressed their hope for further exchanges.

 

Hasmik Poghosian, minister of Culture ot the Republic of Armenia, said, "Chinese culture already enjoys wide popularity in Armenia. We hope to learn even more of the ancient Chinese legacy. At the same time, we want to bring the best of Armenian culture to China, not only performance arts, but painting exhibitions, concerts and so on. Museums of the two countries are in contact. We hope to arrange exchanges of artifacts and cultural exhibits."

 

China and Armenia established diplomatic relations in April 1992. Since then, bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, science and technology and education have expanded, so that the ties between the two countries have grown even stronger.

PRESIDENT KOCHARIAN AWARDED FOR HIS INPUT TO PROMOTION AND ADVERTISING OF SPORTS

 

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 29: Armenia’s athletic community commended yesterday president Robert Kocharian for his input to promotion and active advertisement of sports and healthy life style.

Kocharian was awarded a special Olympic Solidarity prize during a December 28 meeting with prominent sportsmen and sportswomen of the country. The prize was handed to him by Gagik Tsarukian, president of the country’s National Olympic Committee.

Kocharian said the outgoing year proved successful for Armenian athletes who won overall 104 medals of different international tournaments. He said the nation expects Armenian athletes to perform well at Beijing Olympic Games.

Prime minister Serzh Sarkisian also attended the meeting.

ARMENIAN VERSION OF WINDOWS VISTA TO BE READY EARLY NEXT YEAR

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 25: The Armenian representation of Microsoft will announce early next year free distribution of the Armenian-language version of Windows Vista operating system.

Grigor Barseghian, head of Microsoft Armenian representation, said the work is in the last stage.

The representation accomplished last year the Armenian version of Windows XP. Next year it is set to accomplish also the Armenian version of Windows Office, which will have also an Armenian language spelling program.

He said there were fears when they started preparing the Armenian version of Windows XP that it would not be popular, but the demand for it is on the constant rise, he said, especially in areas outside Yerevan

ARMENIA TO HOST PROMINENT MUSICIANS NEXT YEAR

 

YEREVAN: An acclaimed composer Krzsistof Penderetski, a famous conductor Kristoff Eschenbach and the World Youth Symphonic Orchestra will play for Armenian music lovers next year.

They will come here within the frameworks of 21-st Century Perspective musical festival.

The festival presidnet Stepan Rostomian, said on Wednesday they are planning also to invite the famous Madrid Quartet and violinist Kolia Blacker.

Stepan Rostomian commended prime minister Serzh Sarkisian for his sponsorship of the festival.
