hagopn
I just finished a book about Eritrea's war with Ethiopia and came away with full admiration for Eritrea. This is a tiny coutry like Armenia population of 5 million which beat Ethiopia 70 million population with American,Israeli military hardware and intelligence support.During the soviet times Cuba also had soldiers fighting on the side of Ethiopia. In short there are valuable lessons to learn about Eritrea's experience. The train is same as Armenia-very rocky and moutainanous CIA fact book CIA I full admire these brave people!! 5 million can win against 70 million against all odds.Does this sound familiar? There is actually another lesson, the reverse, to learn from this "little country." Eritrea is not a separate cultural or ethnic entity from Ethiopia. The majority are Tigray people who are Ethiopian. The only reason Eritreans are taught to think they have a distinct identity is because they were colonized by Italy since the late 19th century. The rest of Ethiopia, however, was never colonized. it was merely occupied by Mussolini's forces for a brief spell, 1937 to 1945. The so-called International Community’s acceptance of Eritrea's "independence" is a colossal joke. No one ws ever threatening the annihilation of the “Eritrea people.” There in fact is there no distinct “Eritrean identity.” The joke gets even more tragically twisted as Artsakh’s independence from Azerbaijan is not recognized, when Artsakh Armenians had all the legal grounds to secede. The only “marvel” that the Eritrans enjoyed was Saudi support for their independence drive. Saudi’s want an all Muslim red sea, and the Wahhabist Muslims also have the support of Israel, believe it or not, that offsets and negates Arab nationalist sentiments and makes a mockery of the Arab league. I see no reason to “admire” the joke **** calling themselves “Eritrans.” They are in fact a pathetic joke, mere tools to make Ethiopia weak, landlocked, and the desert region of Eritrea a starving and dependent (on Saudi support) enclave that has all the sea coast of Ethiopia but can’t do anything worth a damn with it. You should ctually admire the Ethiopians for resisting the Saudi and Zionist attempts at dismembering their country on bogus grounds for as long as they did. hagopn
Oh, and I am curious as to the book title and name of author. Remember that Ethiopia is a Christian island in the middle of a muslim ocean over there. I don't know who wrote that joke of a book, but the CIA never actually supported the Ethiopia government or any Ethiopian cuase. The CIA cooperated with the Saudis in the final analysis, who were in turn not surprisingly supported by the Mossad.

Yes, they are arrogant, short-sighted and stupid. They also don't know their own country's (which is all of Ethiopia) history. They are shortsighted and stupid enough to think of their own ethnic cousins as "oppressors" and colonialists as "saviors" based on a lie they are taught to feed themselves. I have known these people since childhood, and without exception they give me allergies when interacting with them. They are ignorant about history, about the culture of the land, about the political situation that wanted both them and rest of Ethiopia weak. They are too stupid to realize that they are being used to weaken Ethiopia and that is all.
hagopn
Ah, good points. I will look into it more. But I think Eritria was still much better off sticking to Ethiopia Think of it in these terms: The oil fields in Ogaden that are now being developed by the Chinese were kept under lock and key during the reign of Selassie. All attempts at exploration by non-US, non-Anglo entities were blocked by "resistence movements." One important "resistence" movement was the resistence of the non-entity called the Eritrean, carved out by Italian colonialism. "Eritreans" were used to deprive Ethiopia of 1) the oil refinery in Asab, and 2) all access to the Mare Aerythrium, the Red Sea, after which the Itallian named their colony, Eritrea. The Italians were not able to colonize the rest of the country partly due to Armenian aid and diplomatic efforts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Adowa The second artificial entity created to foment "resistence" was this queer thing based on nothing called the 'Ogadenian Nationality" which yielded, mostly due to CIA and Mossad efforts, the "ONLF," the so-called "Ogadenian National Liberation Front," to "liberate" yet another non-entity for the sole purpose of depriving a non-muslim and non-wahhabist entity in the region of oil riches. Selassie's ambitions with the refinery at Asab were clear indication of the future plans to become an OPEC entity, and the relations being cultivated with the Shah of Iran, who was not so privy to be an "Islamist" in his geopolitical leanings and was willing to cooperate with the Ethiopians alarmed both the Zioinsts and the Wahhabists of Saudi. The rest is "revolutionary history." Currently the Chinese are againa at it, trying to develop the oil fields, huge reserves in Ogaden. Only recently the so-called "ONLF" attacked the Chinese exploratons sites, killing many Chinese and Ethiopian oil workers and staff. http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/i...893268020070808 The Eritreans are too stupid to realizet they are a tool in this game to impoverish themselves and the rest of Ethiopia. hagopn
I'm not too familiar with Eritrea's history, but I'm reading a book (for a class) about how the International Monetary Fund (IMF) brought down almost non-existent Ethiopian economy of that time to a crisis. It was mentioned about the breaking off process from Ethiopia a little. I found it interesting too. Didn't it break off from Ethiopia in 1993 if my memory serves me right? The IMF is the machination used to control strategic global assets and resources. Selassie had refused to devalue his currency, a process that would have accelerated foreign ownership of Ethiopia's strategic assets, and as a response the IMF and the global Banker Cartel had refused to accept his currency globally. The only banking zone willing to exchange the Ethiopian Dollar was Beirut. It is no coincidence that the founding of OPEC, the oil crisis, the two revolutions of Iran and Ethiopia, the civil war in Beirut, all these occurred almost simultaneously. These were cooperating entitites who were working to stave off the influence of the global (western) cartels. Let me also add that Haile Selassie also initiated the OAU project to create a cooperative body of sub-saharan African states to pool resources and capital specifically to counteract the rampant colonialism that still goes on. The CIA did everything to discredit the OAU, and eventually the OAU was severely weakened with the destruction of the Selassie government. Imperialism and exploitation will always evolve from one form to another, but it will never cease to exist! Here is a thread that I tried to introduce a man named John Perkins who deals with the "hidden imperialism" that includes the IMF as one of its machinations of control http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=16338 I would suggest you read his book. He was apparently what is dubbed as an "Economic Hitman," where this individual is first sent in to coerce and bribe the given statesman or dignitary in order to accomplish the tasks of the corporate itnerests at hand. Here is a search on Utube you can browse through http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=john+perkins He's quite the eye-opener. Perkins is optimistic though. He thinks corporations can be made to change their mind. He believes that a corporation hates nothing more than bad publicity and a bad image. Who knows. Perhaps he's still naive, but he was in the game at a deep level for a long time. Edited November 13, 2007 by hagopn

hagopn
Talking about IMF....I have a mid-term tomorrow morning on IMF's role in 1997 East Asian Financial Crisis. I rather just hang myself now! Good luck tomorrow. Here this fellow confirms some of my points: 1) Saudi in the pocket of Anglo-American-Zionist world we now call the "west" 2) The condition of trading oil with US dollars only. 3) Saddams' refusal to adhere to these conditions and opt for the Euro option. Saddam was apparently a CIA agent and a Jackal for the western power. "Saddam was our boy. He was our man." Bechtel's involvement in the murder of Kurds and later Iranians is mentioned. This video is a must watch. Then he talks about Israel's actual role in this overall game. "She before armies. Surrogate solders." Hmmm.... Ethiopia is not mentioned, but I iwll tell you that Ethiopia's oil reserves are huge. The Zenawi government is a joke and is driving Ethiopia into huge WB/IMF debts as we speak. China is working on Ogaden front trying to exploit the oil before US control on Ethiopia is total, which it is not yet. The Eritrean "indepdence" is a joke and was definitely orchestrated by these same people for the same purpose. Again, the Eritreans now control ALL of Ethiopia's seacoast, the larger military air base in Ethiopia at Asmara, and the oil refinery in Asab, and they are too weak and impoverished (surprise!) to exploit these resources. Why? Because they were created to be the little puppet at theirs and Ethiopia's expense. "If we control middle-eastern oil, then we also control our potential competitors, like China, India, Japan," which brings us back to Ethiopian oil and the landclocked status of Ethiopia. China is now keenly interested and is actively invloved in oil exploration in Ethiopia and actively involved in oil extractions projectsin Venezuela. Guess what? Both these states are being pressured by "the International Community" who, jokingly so, immeidately recognized Eritrea's "independence." I cannot stress enough how crucial this is. hagopn
So what are the chances for Ethiopian-Eritrean reunification? As long as the Big Boys have an interest in a weakened and divided Ethiopia, the Eritrean "Liberation Front" will continue to be a well-funded and supported CIA and Saudi asset. The chances right now don't look good, but if China were to become a power one day, the balance shift might favor a re-integrated Ethiopia or at least a more open border and more cooperative Ethiopian-Eritrean relationship. hagopn
I didn't know that Ethiopia had such a large Muslim population (30-40%). And apparently they get along well with the Christians. That's not always been the case. Ethiopia's history is a bloody one, but the interesting twist in Ethiopia is that the Jihad was the loser. Ahmed Gragn was the only serious Muslim threat that Ethiopia saw in its history that actually threatened the Christian hold on its empire. Here is a brief overview of the Ottoman sponsored Gragn and his temporary successes http://www.ethiopianhistory.com/Imam_Ahmad...brahim_al_Ghazi This Gragn is seen as the Devil Incarnate especially in the Amhara and Tigray Christian cominated regions of Begemdir, Wollo, Tigray in the north, and Shoa, which is partly in Oromo country in the middle. During the insurgeance of the Tigre forces (who were supposedly "marxists" fighthing along side the ENLF and the collapse of the Derg regime and the capitulation of its (starving) army (as Mengistu was instructed by "someone" to stop supporting his Army, thus the sole reason that "Eritreans won their independence oh so bravely") muslim Oromo in the south in particular were going on a killing spree of Christian Oromo and Amara in the south. The same was happening in the Shoa and Begemdir regions for a short spell, before the Christians started castrating muslim guerillas and hanging their members on trees as warning. Hey, these are people with experience in fighting such "friendly elements." This sole Christian Island (as the Dinka are being systematically exterminated in Sudan and therefore eliminating Christian presence in that region) is now under severe Islamization attack financed by Saudi Arabia. This now impoverished and collapsed eonomy and society are literally seeing their people purchased into conversion to Islam with a few dollars per head. They didn't get along well. The Christians kept a long stick and used it. That's why they are the true heroes in the mountains who held off the Jihad. Now they are being attacked by an Economic Jihad. hagopn
That was depressing to read. It's interesting that there is an Armenian community there (my relatives live next door to an Armthopian). Oh yeah? Chances are I know them--- Sorry to depress you, but this is the reality. Look at Kosovo, Bosnia, and all the anti-Serbian biases. Look at their refusal to recognize the perfectly legal Artsakh secession and re-unification with Armenia. Armenians did it by the book, by the book, no violence, with a referendum that was within the Constitutional limits of the USSR, but look at what is happening. 1) Eritrea that has no legal basis for secession is recognized, 2) Kosovo, which actually had seen persecution of Serbs and historical reduction of serbian populations, in now in the process of being given to the Albanians. 3) Cyprus is still partly occupied by Turkey. 4) Unlike Bosnia, the situation southern Sudan where Christians are bieng extrerminated saw no "aerial bombings in Khartum" like we saw "aerial bombings on Belgrade." Oh, did you know that Iranian cargo airlifts into Bosnia during that conflict were sanctioned and escorted by US military? Things are depressing. What can I tell you. _femme333_
The CIA comes to my unviersity (as well us to most unviersities) twice a year to recruit students to be a "foreign service officer", which is a light way of saying a "spy". I went to their meetings few weeks ago just to see what their qualifications are, and one of the recruiters told me that I do qualify in every way, and he also gave me his contact information along with his "name" for me to contact him if I do decide to join the CIA after my university studies. He knows I'm fluent in Russian, so he probably thinks that I could be used to spy on Russians. One thing that strike me the most is how colorful the two recruiters painted the image of a foreign service officer and his duties. I was glad to know few things about how the CIA has operated for decades now to understand that those two were just fooling the poor students by keep repeating how wonderful it is to work overseas and see the world every few years by moving around! They also mentioned how enjoyable and satisfying to work for the CIA (for our country as he stated), that most people...and by that he meant 85%+ of the people who work for the CIA are there for life....they failed to mention that getting in might be much easier than getting out and being stuck there for the rest of your career doesn't necessary mean that it's the most enjoyable place to work. Seemed like the CIA is very desparate now days for more foreign service officers and I wonder why! I was watching the Russian news the same day of that CIA recruitment event at my unviersity and the Russians were reporting how USA is short of foreign service officers in Baghdad's American embassy and now the State Department is actually making/forcing foreign service officers to move to the American Embassy in Baghdad because no one from their officers wants to volunteer at the Embassy in Baghdad. Well...at least I know I have one job lining up for me if I find nothing else after graduation
