DIPHTHONG

ԵՐԿԲԱՐԲԱՌ

Diphthong is when one or more consonants are put together to produce another sound.

In the English and Latin we have diphthongs the likes of C and H put together to produce the sound of CH/Չ, S and H for SH, T and H for TH. In other languages , such as German three consonants are put together, like in SCH , not to mention the Polish where 3-4-5 consonants are put together. While others place diacritsl marks over and above the letters to produce new sounds.

No argument here. Mashtots is our undisputed all time Saint, even more so than Vardan, about whom there may be many arguments.

Look here, to se how Mahtots, aside from being our most revered Saint is also portrayed our most illustrious WARRIOR, who single handedly saved our nation from annihilation, perhaps not with his “sword” but by his “pen”, by none other than our modern day “saint” Paruyr Sevak.

Pease allow me to commit a most sacrilegious sin of all time and argue with St. Mesrop.

No doubt that Mashtots is the greatest Armenian Scientist of all times.

Aside from the legend of him seeing the hand of God writing the Ayb Ben Gim on a black/white board, we also know that he was the RIGHT hand of God. He was the consummate scientist of his time, searching and researching all the available scripts of the time, dissatisfied of what he saw decided to creat an whole new system to fit all the sounds of the Armenian Language.

And he did!

We forget the fact that he spent many sleepless nights , arguing whether the AYB BEN GIM should be linked like some Semitic ones or unlinked like the Greek and Latin. Whether it should be right to left, like some neighboring (eastern) ones or left to right, like the ones in the west.

Is anyone here left handed?

I have noticed that left handed people will subject themselves to all kinds of contortions to see what they have written previously, as their left hand will eclipse the pervious letter.

Given that most people, predominantly right handed, may explain why Greeks and Latins may have chosen to write from left to write.

OK! I talk too much! And in the process I forget the purpose of the main topic. We’re supposed to talk about “diphthongs/բարբառ”.

We know that Mashtots was a first class scientist, who studied all the existing scripts , and decided none of them fit the sounds of the Armenian Language, so he devised a separate symbol for each and every one of them.

Mashtots invented 36 characters to satisfy every sound.. When even those clowns in Klikia did not know that Փ = Ph was meant to sound like F and created/adopted a new character, not to mention those other modern day clowns that insist that YEV ԵՒ/ԵՎ is the 37th letter., when we, even at the tender age of 4 in kindergarten knew that the YEV inserted there to separate the Mesropian Alphabet from the Kilikian addition.

Let’s get to the matter of diphthongs. We are fortunate enough to know Latin, English, German and even Polish to know that one or two consonants put together can crate the desired sound. That placing diacritical marks over and under a letter may produce new sounds It is doubly painful to hear the rumor that a certain Hagob Martayan, aka Dilachar (tongue opener) was the sole engineer and designer of the post ataturd furkish alphabet.

What if Mesrop had known about diphthongs and put together Ս and Հ, Գ and Հ, Կ and Հ, among others to create the sounds of Շ/sh , Չ/ch, Խ/kh and more.!!!

SHUT ME UP!!

ԱՍԵՄ ՄԵՂԱՅ!! ՈՐ ՍՐԲԱՊՂԾԵՄ ՄԱՇՏՈՑԻ ՍՈՒՐԲ ՇԻՐԻՄԸ.

My view is that Mashtots, having come from an area where pre-Christian priesthood was concentrated and hetanos activity was at its peak in Armenia, invented 36 letters to comform to pagan beliefs. I don't think that 3-4 generations knocked the Armenian out of Armenians.

The Greeks are plauged with diphthongs, but they refused to goes beyond the 24 letter mark due to pagan beliefs.

Multiples of 12, 24, 36, these are pagan numbers.

And, you cannot find the name Grigor in Koriun's writings. Why? Grigor was either truly an insignificant barb, or he ws hated by Mashtots' and Koriun's faction due to his anti-Armenian deeds.
