nothye Posted September 13, 2007 Report Share Posted September 13, 2007 hey! its a long story, but there's an armenian girl i know who maybe kinda a little bit likes me. perhaps. so, i came up with the great idea of throwing some super cheesy, soap opera lines in aremenian at her, in a jokey dramatic manner to kinda flush her out, you know? or at least make her laugh. can anyone throw some out there for me? would need a rough pronounciation, too, if you don't mind. also, nothing nasty or sexual-- she isn't that kinda girl and i don't want to mess this up. here's a few that kinda pretain to our situation-- ill be going a way for a few weeks: i would walk 1000 miles to fall at your feet! my love will watch over you always! you are a light that will never go out! good bye, my love! suggestions? any direct translation for terms of endearment, like sweetie, honey and stuff? thanks so much! will try them out friday for sure. (When I put "@", what I mean is a sound that resembles the "u" in "butt" and it's also the sound in "uuuumm..") Well, sorry, but I can only translate it to Western Armenian. But what you could do is ask her what type of Armenian she speaks (say: "Eench desag hayeren g@ khosees?" or "Eench tesak hayeren khosoom es?"). The first one is Western dialect, and if she doesn't understand, try the 2nd one which is the Eastern dialect. If she answers "arevel...", she speaks Eastern dialect, if she answers "arevm@d..." she speaks Western dialect. If she's Western dialect, try using my translations and if she's Eastern, well, there are many Armenians in this forum who speak Eastern dialect, so that shouldn't be a problem. ( a as in launch, e as in epic, o as in more, ee as in feet, oo as in root, gh is a hard sound for English-speakers but try your best and it's found in Afghan but English-speakers just pronounce it Afgan even though that's not right) i would walk 1000 miles to fall at your feet! = "yes hazar m@ghonner g@ kalem vodkeroot eenaloo hamar" my love will watch over you always! = "eem ser@s meeshd kez g@ teede" you are a light that will never go out! = "toon looys m@n es, vor p@nav chee marveer" good bye, my love! = "yertas parov, eem seerelees" sweetie/honey = "seerelees" you're my sweetie/honey = "toon eem seerelees es" hi = "parev" If you have any questions, feel free to ask. nothye Posted September 15, 2007 Author Report Share Posted September 15, 2007 (edited) super anti-climactic finish! she wasn't in today, and i won't be back at that office for a while, so it could be a few months before i run into her again. but i didn't want your advice going to waste, so i wrote down a few phoenetic pronunciations for someone and instructed her to pass along the message in an overly dramatic fashion. kinda lame, i know. even though there is only a 50% chance of her understanding, its better than nothing, i guess. and she knows where to find me if she really wants to. so we'll wait and see. i gave her some of the western stuff, by the way. it was either that, or i print out some of the funny squiggles () someone posted and pointed to them. and i could totally get away with calling her a monkey, i think. i'm that good. but i can't sing that song because i don't know how it goes. are there some super cheesy amenian singing dudes i should maybe check out, just in case? maybe you guys should start a forum or website for picking up armenian chicks. that would be really helpful, for me, at least.
