One week before april 24, 1915, several writers were invited in the house of Roupen Sevag.

Hagop Oshagan tells how they spent the evening

There was Varujan, Theotig and his wife, Dikran Cheguryan and also

Diran cherakyan "Indra" he was from Lebanon I think, as he had writen poems

about cedar trees, and another poem "Le monde intérieur" I don't know if it is

translated in English.

Has anybody some poems from him ?

Տիրան Չրաքեան, գրչանուն Ինտրա:

Note that Intra/Ինտրա is an anagram of his given name.

Louise, sorry for the delay, I hoped to find more about him, to no avail. Even more sorry that there is precious very little to report.

As to his reference to “cedars”( of Lebanon), once again there is no mention of him having been to Lebanon, except….

Tiran Chraqian (Intra, father‘s name Caspar) was born in Polis Sept. 11, 1875, died Juky, 6 , 1921 somewhere near Diarbakir.

He was a poet, writer, but above all an accomplished graphic artist. It is reported that , in 1888 when Ayvasovski was in Polis he surveyed Tiran’s watercolors and commended him profusely.

Tiran had written and taught in his native city, visited Marseille , Geneve and EGYPT ,no mention of Lebanon**. Returned to his native city , engaged in the teaching profession. Then somehow, probably due to an spiritual crisis, read “nervous breakdown” (not unlike Komitas. Remember that poets and artists have a very fragile "heart") he subscribed to the cult(sect) of Seventh Day Adventists/Shabatapah/Շաբաթապահ, and began traveling the land preaching and spreading revolutionary messages , because of which he was arrested in Konya and banished to Diarbakir where he perished. No record of the circumstances of his demise.

** As to the Cedars of Lebanon. In Egypt he may have been near enough, or even visited Lebanon. One of his literary collections is titled Nochastan/Նոճաստան, ie. Land of Cedars. Once again, it is tragically sad commentary that there is no info about him, either in hard copy or the internet..

NB/PS/ՅԳ. Louise, you may consider contacting the Printing House at the Catholicate of Kilikia in Antelias. They have, and are actively engaged in publishing our masterpieces .

Thank you Dear Arpa for these information about Diran Tchakerian. I have found an old book

"Histoire de la litterature armenienne" from H. Thorossian - Préface de Rene Grousset. 1951

published in Paris. There was a whole page about this poet. But unfortunately there was no poem

from him. He has written other works than Land of Cedars.

Thank you again. Now I have a more complete biography.
