I used to think that if someone said they are Armenian I would automatically relate to them. Since re-kindling my relationship with the Armenian community, I have come to learn that this is far from reality. Depending on our geographical region, our cultures differ from one another significantly. I visited Armenia in 2005 for the first time in my life, and though I fell in love with the country, I could not relate to the people as intensely as I'd hoped. Besides language, which I actually overcame quickly, the vast differences in food, faith, marriage, faithfulness in marriage, male dominance and chauvinism, business ethics, etc. were profound.
