gamavor Posted June 14, 2007 Report Share Posted June 14, 2007 (edited) I'm not interested in Turko-Rabinic studies so the topic title has nothing to do with Hazars, although if you Google the word "Hazar" you will end up with tons of turkic references. This is interesting. I've always thought that the word "hazar" - thousand in Armenian is borrowed from Arabic or Assyrian. Wrong. It appears that in it Armenian form it is Avesta word (Proto-Persian). Most likely it evoloved from Sanskrit or Indo-Iranian "g'heslo"and arrived to the present day Greek as "khelio".
