The latter is based on "amousin/marital partner" with the negative prefix "a" to mean without.The Latin/English word is based on the Latin "celeb/caeleb" that means "single life".The Armenian word "kousakron" has a very interesting origin. The root word is also used in words such as "kuys/virgin", "kousaktsoutyun/party", and "mekousi/isolated/alone". This last one may have already given away the mystery. All of the above are based on the root word "kous", "gous" to the practitioners of western orthography/transliteration. The secret may be found in words like "qar-a-kousi" (square). Qarakousi means four sided where the "kous" means "side". "Kousaakron" in fact means "mekousatsats", isolated, withdrawn to the side. You can draw your conclusion as to why we use the word "kouys" to mean virgin.
