ZVARTNOTS AIRPORT SHOWS FUTURE ARMENIA

 

On May 25 the new passenger terminal at Zvartnots Airport was dedicated. The new terminal complying with international standards and admitting 2 million passengers annually impressed the participants of the ceremony. The president of Armenia, the Catholicos, the prime minister of NKR, the Armenian ministers, businessmen, politicians participated in the ceremony of dedication.

 

President Robert Kocharyan said the new airport is the gateway Armenia deserves, which shows what Armenia will look like in the nearest future. According to Robert Kocharyan, all the branches of the Armenian economy must be upgraded to the level of the new airport. The president said the building is the best answer to strictures when a few years ago a concession was signed with the Argentina-based Armenian businessman Eduardo Eurnekian who took up the management of the airport for 30 years. 97 million dollars out of the 220 million investments foreseen for the period of management was made. Robert Kocharyan said hopefully the second stage of the construction will start soon, which involves the new departure lounge making the airport complete. For the time being, the passenger will check up in the old building and then move to the new passenger terminal. The president of Armenia congratulated everyone and wished good luck to all those people who together with Eurnekian contributed to this beautiful and modern gateway to Armenia. Robert Kocharyan also said hopefully Eduardo Eurnekian’s investments in other spheres of the Armenian economy will be as successful. The president said the Argentine businessman made investments in agriculture, the banking system and is also likely to invest in energy.

 

For his part, Eduardo Eurnekian said he is happy for the success of this important initiative. The businessman thanked the president of Armenia, the deceased Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan, the prime minister Serge Sargsyan, the minister of justice Davit Harutiunyan, the head of the president administration Armen Gevorgyan for their support. By the way, Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan did not attend the dedication ceremony because he was visiting Ukraine for the meeting of prime ministers of the CIS countries.

 

The ceremony ended with the blessing of the Catholicos of All Armenians. Afterwards President Kocharyan and Eduardo Eurnekian cut the tape walked around the new terminal.
