Mehyan (Errata)

In a previous post I misspoke.

I said Bagin was the official journal of the Hethanos Sharzhoum.

 

It was Mehyan. A lietarary esthetic monthly magazine

founded in 1914, seven editions were published.

Kostan Zaryan was the founder, publisher and chief editor.

Other editors were G. Barseghian, H. Kyufejian (later Hakob Oshakan).

It was a natural development pursuant to the 1910's movement known

as Hethanos Sharzhoum (alternately known as Mehenakan Sharzhoum).

The primary objective was to encourage and publish well established

writers and encourage the budding ones. One of its missions was to

unite the disparate people, the intellect in particular and, in the

process to remove the virtual lines that separated our culture

into "roussahay", "turkahay", "kovkasahay" etc. Many have contributed

including but not limited to R. Zardarian, G. TerKarapetian, H. Mntsour,

H. Nazarian, Levon Shant and V. Papazian. The editorial body included

D. Varouzhan, V. Tekeyan, H. Sirouni, L. Esajanian, R. Shishmanian et al.

 

Mehyan; Pagan Temple.

Here is what Ajarian has to say.

Mehyan, Mehean. A house of idols, a temple of idolatry.

It derives from (house of) Mihr. Mehyan is also used to mean,

a place and altar for sacrifice, a sacred hearth(fireplace).

 

Bagin.

From the phlv. "bag/baga" meaning "god". In time it gained the

"in" suffix and was applied to places of worship.

Another variation is "bagaran" which is self explanatory.

Many towns and places were named using the root word "bag"

among them Bagavan, Bagaran, Bagnayr, Baginq.

i think Armenian city of Bagavan was named so by Bagratunis. it was the capital city for a while during Bagratunis.

 

or maybe the name Bagratuni itself is deriven from Bag?
