aSoldier
Christianity has a strong influence on the Armenian culture and traditions. During Easter, attending Church service, preparing traditional food, making house visitations etc. are some of the many traditions, which Armenians have practiced for centuries. One lovely tradition that is worth mentioning is the Armenian Easter greeting, which is exchanged between family and friends during visitations and encounters. The following is the greeting with its English translation. The first line is uttered by the greeter and the second line by the greeted. Krisdos haryav e mèrèlots (Christ has risen from the dead) Orhnyal è harootuonè Krisdosi (Blessed is the ascension of Christ) Traditions are the spice of life, let’s keep this lovely tradition alive and practice it every Easter. On a different note, April 24 is just around the corner. Every year on this date Armenians around the world commemorate the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide at the hands of the Ottoman Turks. Those who are interested in this subject might like to have a look at a recent award winning multimedia CD-ROM entitled “Armenian Genocide 1915-1923.” This is a well-prepared educational publication worth owning.
