Aratta-Kingdom
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...te.2bb2316.html The Dallas Morning News March 14, 2007 Native of Armenia finds home as Richardson goalie Richardson goalie Andrew Khachatryan said he remembers little about his time living in a war-torn Armenian enclave. His parents, however, have vivid memories of trying to survive a conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan that claimed more than 30,000 lives from 1988 to 1994. RICKY MOON/Special Contributor In his first season of varsity hockey, Richardson goalie Andrew Khachatryan is 8-7 with a 2.62 goals-against average. "It was dangerous," said Khachatryan's mother, Irina. "We never knew if we were going to be alive or not. ... There were a lot of bombs. We were living a whole year underground." After seeing several relatives die in the fighting, Khachatryan's family fled the Nagorno-Karabakh region and moved to Russia when Andrew was 2. Khachatryan learned to speak English and learned how to skate while living in Moscow before his family moved to the United States in 1997, when he was 7. "We were just looking for a better life," Andrew said. "Here, everyone is open to every race and every religion. There's more freedom." He has found a better life – and developed a love for hockey. The Richardson senior has a 3.5 grade-point average, and he's planning to study accounting or business in college. He attends St. Sarkis Armenian Church in Carrollton, and he has represented the church in Bible competitions around the nation. In his first season playing varsity hockey, Khachatryan is 8-7 with a 2.62 goals-against average. Richardson (9-9-2), which plays in the Silver Division, has won nine more games than last season, when the team was 0-23-1. Khachatryan hopes to earn a spot on a junior team and then play college hockey, but he said that if that doesn't happen, he'll probably attend North Texas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archimedes must have had the armenians in mind when he said "Give me a lever long enough and I will move the Earth". These people just love to live...A chance for peace is all they ask for. Give them a chance to live and they will move the Earth...
