Error 404
2-3 weeks ago I have got email from ANCA urging to contact (through their website) to my congressman to urge him to support the new genocide resolution. I went to their(ANCA's) website signed under the text they have prepared and sent it to HOWARD L. BERMAN. Here is the text I've sent: Support Swift Passage of Armenian Genocide Resolution Required text to sponsors in the House: (This text will be included in your message) I am writing to thank you for cosponsoring H.Res.106 - the Armenian Genocide Resolution - and to respectfully urge you to help secure the adoption of this anti-genocide measure by encouraging your colleagues to work for its timely approval in committee and by the House of Representatives. I make this request for your help in securing additional cosponsors - and in supporting this resolution's rapid progress through the legislative process - only weeks after the brutal assassination in Turkey of Hrant Dink. As you know, on January 19th, Hrant, a leading Istanbul-based Armenian journalist, was murdered in cold-blood outside the offices of his Agos newspaper, amid a growing tide of official Turkish government prosecutions and pressure to silence his writings on the Armenian Genocide of 1915 to 1923. This terrible act of brutality - incited by the Turkish government's hateful campaign of denial - is a true wake up call for the U.S. Congress to both recognize the Armenian Genocide and to take a principled stand against the denial of this crime. I am encouraged that H.Res.106 was introduced with over 160 cosponsors, a strong showing of bipartisan support for this human rights initiative. Last Congress, a similar bill was overwhelmingly approved by the House International Relations Committee in a 40 to 7 vote. This year, we can - and must - do better by securing its final adoption by the full House. To offer your help in securing the adoption of the Armenian Genocide Resolution, please ask your staff to contact Tim Bergreen in Rep. Schiff's office or Chris Herndon in Rep. Radanovich's office. To learn more, please contact the Armenian National Committee of America at (202) 775-1918 or anca@anca.org. Thank you for your consideration of this morally compelling initiative to finally end the denial of the Armenian Genocide - and to help end forever the cycle of genocide. Sincerely xxxxxxxx And this is his response I have got today! February 8, 2007 Dear Mr. xxxxxxxxxxxx Thank you for contacting me to show your support for H.R. 503. I agree with you about the need to protect horses from slaughter in the United States and subsequent human consumption overseas. According to the USDA, over 90,000 horses were slaughtered in the U.S. in 2005 for foreign consumption in Europe and Asia. Additionally, thousands more are believed to have been transported live over long distances to be slaughtered abroad. Horses shipped to slaughterhouses often endure inhumane conditions where they receive no food, water, or rest. Tragically, many owners are unaware that the horses they have sold may end up bound for a slaughterhouse. In 2005, I voted for an amendment that prohibited the use of tax dollars to fund the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspection and approval process, effectively shutting down horse slaughter plants. Despite overwhelming support for this amendment from both chambers of Congress and the public, the text of the amendment was changed to allow horse slaughter to continue. Therefore, passage of H.R. 503 is necessary to protect American horses and enact a permanent ban. H.R. 503 would ban the slaughter of horses in the United States for foreign consumption and also prohibit the trade and transport of horseflesh and live horses for this use. I cosponsored this legislation because I believe it is fundamental to ending this practice. Although the bill passed the House of Representatives last Congress on September 7, 2006 by a vote of 263-146, it failed to pass the Senate. I look forward to making this bill a law in this Congress. Again, thank you for your support of H.R. 503. Please continue to stay in touch. Sincerely, HOWARD L. BERMAN Member of Congress What the hell is this a joke? ED
Sadly* major portion of ANCA income goes to public relations, I.E. Genocide related issues and office work is left for few or any IT engineers they mostly rely on interns. ROA officially on the surface cant help, but I'm sure they can provide safe environments also individuals, organizations, with related skills can do a lot on voluntary bases. * I say sadly because ANCA still remains distance second lobby in Washington
Error 404
Finally.. I have got the correct reply from the congressman today. Dear Mr.xxxxxxxx Thank you for contacting me about the Armenian Genocide. You will be pleased to know that I am a cosponsor of H. Res. 106, the Armenian Genocide Resolution, and I voted for similar legislation when it was considered in committee during the last Congress. I will work to ensure that the resolution is brought up in committee again and makes its way to the Floor of the House for a vote. On a related matter, you may be interested to know that I signed a letter to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemning the assassination of Armenian-Turkish editor Hrant Dink. I encourage the Turkish government to continue its investigation into the killing of Mr. Dink, and have also called on the prime minister to repeal Article 301, a section of the Turkish penal code making it a crime to "insult Turkishness," under which Mr. Dink had previously been prosecuted. Furthermore, I have also cosponsored H. Res.102, legislation which condemns the Dink assassination and calls for the vigorous prosecution of those responsible for his assassination. I appreciate the opportunity to share my views and look forward to hearing from you again in the near future. Sincerely, HOWARD L.
