Guest
Has anyone vsited Noratert Online? It's a news service in Armenian by ARMINCO and it disgusts me. The Armenian used in the articles is an insult to Mesrob Mashdots to the whole Armenian nation and culture.Look at the words used in articles written in Armenian:- Instead of KHOUMP (team) they write TIM.- Instead of PAKHT (chance) they write SHANSE.- Instead of writing HAVASSAR (equal) they write FIFTI-FIFTI. I understand that some words related to new technologies need to be adopted for universal understanding reasons but...! I mean these news are directed to many people! Is this the future of Armenia and it's culture? I'd rather die then see our language evolve this way. Shenorhagaloutyun!

Guest
Jan Fedayi, isn't there a Organisation in Armenia that has control over these things? I think that such an organisation must be able to force newspapers and magazines to write "maqur hayeren"!
Guest
Uh oh! Then you would probably faint if you heard my Armenian! It's mixed with Farsi and English plus a bit of Turkish(inch boy es kashe," my aunts would tell me I always that "boy" was Armenian, its Turkish!) I have been recently trying to purify my Armenian and Farsi, for I sometimes use Armenian words when speaking to Persians. Its real hard though, but we need to make the effort. However keep in mind that living languages always borrow, in Spanish they use "e-mail" despite the correct "correo electronico." THis should be allowed but limited. Khub, yes bye bye em etum! Guest
I am not talking of everyday speaking. Every language has it's streets and familiar versions. French use English, Armenians use Turkish, etc.The media have to present facts with a high level Armenian but they, it's like they can't open the freakin' dictionnary! I mean they give a terrible image. The language used in the media should be the high-popular language, it's like a reference. If people read this they will start saying COFI instead of SURJ, POET instead of PANASDEGHDZ, etc...By the way, I have a guest from Armenia and she is staying with us for a month . I talked with her about this and she told me that NORATERT is not respected at all in Yerevan, that's good news.
Guest
Yes. You are right, it's the impression I get. There is way too much freedom.
Guest
There are many many things that are not the way they should be in Armenia. There is no censorship of anything. And there are no guidelines to be followed when it comes to the language and terminalogy used in press and media. And, as JanFedayi pointed out Armenians have a tendency of adopting foreign words. This lack of attention towards press and media is only one of numerous problems that the Ministry of Culture needs to deal with. Guest
Uh oh another one! I always use "gofe" for coffee, though I know "surj" is the correct word. That is interesting how almost every other language adapted the Arabic "gawa" (ghave-Farsi, cafe-French,Spanish,Portuguese, caffe-Italian, Kaffee-German, etc), but the Armenian word is very unique. Worse yet, we always say "chay" for tea, like the Turks and Iranians!

Guest
Raffi jan, Most of the people in the governments of Armenia all the way from 1991 up to now did't understand what it means and takes to create a national state. There were some really devoted people but they were all killed and the few ones who still exist now are out of power. The only relatively not corrupt guy who gained real power was Vazgen Sargsyan. Because at some moment he understood that the country is going to hell and positioned himself agains corruption. By this move he purified himself and because he was really sincere in this people believed him. Nobody can fool the Armenians. People saw by their own eyes that he was not lieing. But while creating a national state corruption is the most dangerous thing because it opens the way for treasons and betrayals. At this moment of national unification the leader must be a dictator. There is no other way to create a national state. He was a very kind hearted man for this moment. He was not able to kill Armenians, even the corrupt ones, and so the Armenians killed him. When a revolution or a national struggle is over the leader must hate his people to unify them, because revolutions bring too much ambition and unjustified feelings with them. These unjustified ambitions, which are leading to corruption and treason, must be killed. There is no other way to overcome them, history proves this. He failed to do this.In normal countries when a Prime Minister is killed, President resingns and new elections are held. This did not happen. So the people are totally indifferent what happens in the government, who is our president etc. They care about "What my child's gonna eat tommorrow?". In return, the government is also indifferent towards the people. There is no connection between them. I'm sorry to note this but presently the language purity is also not a priority. Guest
FOR YOUR INFO. I have visited this section, and I am aslo for you. I also know that our language is in jeapordy and soon it will be destroyed. It brings us to a conclutsion that we Armenians need to go back (physically) go back to Armenia and set schools there. If we have to fix the government we will to live in poverty sometime, but we will do it. I know we can. If you all value our own LAND and LANGUAGE we must do it. And if you think that we wont be able to create this life that is in here in the US you are incorrect. I know many Armenian scientists and programmers that can bring Armenia to its summit. And we will not have to go to the internet anymore to type in EGLISH letter to express outselves in Armenian. I think you get my point but we should conduct a meeting. I will tell you were soon, but I have to see you all and a respond from all of you. If Mesrob Mashtots was here, he would ran away and cry, cry,.....
