Sip
Round-abouts work great in low traffic areas. But in my experience, they suck HORRIBLY when traffic levels go up. They are almost as bad as stop signs. Ever tried negotiating a round-about in high traffic? Also, if a driver would run through a red light, what possible reasoning would convince us that he or she will drive safely through a round-about? "In short, if motorists are made more wary about how they drive, they behave more carefully, he said." -- bollocks!!! I was talking to some researchers that have put video cameras on traffic lights and detect whether an incoming car has any way of slowing down or stopping in time for the changing light that is changing to red . If not, they extend the red light in the opposite direction to protect the traffic from entering the intersection. These kinds of things I can definitely see working but there's not much you can do to make a drunk/distracted driver safer -- traffic light or no traffic light.
