Z'areh
Regardless of the wisdom behind the chosen topic by the pontiff, it should be interesting to see how Muslims throughout the world will react. I do believe that the Pope was talking against the violence carried out today in the name of Islam or the prophet Muhammad and not against Islam, as a religion. The quote by the 14th century Byzantine Emperor is taken out of the context and the media is doing its share of igniting the fuel. It is unfortunate that the Pope chose to speak the way he did knowing well what might happen in this tense religious environment created in the post-Sept.11 world. But knowing how Muslims throughout the world have reacted in the past to such “provocations”, it will not be surprising to witness violent reactions with people being killed, (already churches have been firebombed) thus in a way giving credence to what the Pope has said. Ironic isn’t it?
Eurocentric
Regardless of the timing, did he say anything incorrect? Hell did Comnenus whom he quoted say anything that was not factual?
Zartonk
I agree. It took just half a day for the entire Muslim world to organize outright riots. They only affirmed his comment by such reaction. Might I also add that it's the very religion that should be attacked, as it is what instills and protects the vile behavior. Why beat around the bush?
