It is time!!

April showers bring spring flowers.

It’s about time!

Better late than never.

Get out your brush broom /ցախաւել/tsakhavel out and resume the process.

We began the process in 1953 when we replaced Stalin’s statue on top of the Victory Park/Յաղթանակի with that of Mother Armenia. Then once again, in 1989 we renamed Leninakan to Gyumri.

Is that the end of the process?

No!

This time we must take a solemn oath to never again rename things according to prevailing events. I said “rename”. We can still name them as they are created. But never again renaming, even if Bushland or Putinburg.

Thank you Armenak, and welcome. You gave us the Jerky Turky version of the story.

We read in AZG; In short it says, 52 localities were reviewed by a special governmental committee and were considered for renaming. Mainly homonyms of foreign, particularly Turkic origins.

Of all the places Alaverdi gets top billing. A fact that had not escaped my attention, I may even have commented in public.

After all, of all the people to complain Turks are the least qualified. Can you find a town, a village, even a hamlet int their xo called country with their original Armenian names. Akhtamar/Hakhtamar is known as Ak Damar,whatever the hell it may mean. Masis is known as Agri Dagh, little do they know that Agri is the turkified version of the Armenian Aghori… etc.

Alaverdi is not an Italian opera.

During the reign of Artashes it was known as Manes or Manasgomer. It changed hands , Armenian, Sassanian, Geogian, Mongols and Turks. Finally, in the 17th century, after Shah Abbas virtually emptied all of Armenia of its native inhabitants, the place was used as a pasture to Turkic tribes and it was renamed for one the tribal chiefs-Allah-Verdi-Mullah -oghli Tarkhan.

BTW, that Turkish designation means god-given. The Armenian version of it is Astvatsatur or Asatur for short. If it was god-given then it will taken back by our own mighty GOD-Aramazt.

I am not advocating the use of any god-damn name, but renaming them to their original historic Armenian would be welcome as it will once again assert our millennia long ownership.

Manes, aka Alaverdi is best known for its copper mining and industry.

 

ԱՆՎԱՆԱՓՈԽՎԵԼ ԵՆ ՕՏԱՐԱԼԵԶՈՒ ԵՎ ԱՆԲԱՐԵՀՈՒՆՉ ԲՆԱԿԱՎԱՅՐԵՐ

Մինչեւ տարեվերջ անվանումների վերահայկականացումը կավարտվի

Հայաստանի Հանրապետության տարածքում գտնվող 52 բնակավայրեր երեկ կառավարության որոշմամբ անվանափոխվել են: Այդ մասին լրագրողներին տեղեկացրեց անշարժ գույքի կադաստրի պետական կոմիտեի նախագահ Մանուկ Վարդանյանը: Բնակավայրերն անվանափոխվում են, եթե դրանք օտարալեզու են եւ օտարահունչ, անբարեհունչ են եւ նույն մարզի տարածքում կրկնվող: Այդ նպատակով ստեղծվել էր հանձնաժողով, որն աշխատել է 7-8 ամիս: Հանձնաժողովի կազմում ընդգրկվել են համապատասխան ոլորտի գիտնականներ: Հանձնաժողովը անվանափոխության համար առաջնորդվել է նախ պատմական անվանումների վերականգնման, ապա տեղի աշխարհագրական պայմանները, ազգային փոքրամասնությունների շահերը նկատի ունենալու սկզբունքներով:

Մանուկ Վարդանյանը հայտնեց, որ անվանափոխված 5 համայնքների նոր անվանումներն առաջարկել են դրանց բնակիչները, 4-ը եղել են կրկնվող, 37 համայնքներում վերականգնվել են պատմական անվանումները եւ դարձել հայեցի, իսկ 6-ում փոփոխվել են անբարեհունչ անվանումները: Ինչպես հայտնեց կադաստրի կոմիտեի նախագահը, վերջիններս հիմնականում եղել են այսպիսին՝ թռչնաբուծարանին կից, կայարանին կից եւ այլն: Նա նաեւ հույս հայտնեց, որ մինչեւ տարեվերջ կվերանվանվեն եւս 27 համայնքներ իրենց պատմական անվանումներով, 21 օտարալեզու, 10 անբարեհունչ եւ 12 կրկնվող անվանումներով համայնքներ: Բնականաբար, աստիճանաբար պետք է փոփոխվեն նաեւ կնիքները, անձնագրերը, ծննդյան վկայականները:

«Ազգի» այն հարցին, թե անվանափոխված համայնքները գյուղակա՞ն են, թե՞ կան նաեւ քաղաքներ, Մանուկ Վարդանյանը պատասխանեց, որ անվանափոխվածները միայն գյուղեր են, բայց քննարկվում է երկու քաղաքների՝ Ալավերդու եւ Ախթալայի վերանվանման հարցը: Ինչ վերաբերում է աշխարհագրական անվանումներին՝ դաշտերի, գետերի, լեռների եւ այլն, ապա հաշվառվել են շուրջ 40 հազար անվանումներ, որոնց շուրջ 60 տոկոսը օտարահունչ է: Դրանք եւս պետք է վերանվանվեն: Առաջինը դա կարվի Կոտայքի եւ Արագածոտնի մարզերում:

Մանուկ Վարդանյանը երեկ հայտնեց անվանափոխման հանձնաժողովի եւս մեկ հետաքրքրական առաջարկի մասին: Այն է՝ հայտնի հասարակական-քաղաքական գործիչների անունով անվանակոչումներն իրականացնել նրանց մահվանից 10 տարի հետո, որպեսզի հետագայում դրանց հերթական անվանփոխման հետ կապված խնդիրներ չառաջանան:

Above it says that the committee has taken up the task of toponymic re-naming, that it has left to the discretion of the villagers and townspeople to suggest.

Has the process really resumed?

Yes! We rid ourselves of such “idiots” like Lenin and Stalin, Hogdemberian and Noyemberian But have we rid us from the likes of Ala-Verdi? No, it is not an Italian Opera, nor it is like Tigran Chukhajian‘s(not an Armenian surname by any stretch of imagination) Tigran II.

In the above quote we read that the inhabitants have suggested to rename Alaverdi, to rename their own town.

Yes!

This is only a beginning of a massive cleanup.

Next, even more urent should be cleansing our surnames of that goddamn turkish !!!

My ardent hope is that we never have a president with a name like Demrji-bokhju-oghlu-ian.
