After receiving a B.A. in English Language and Literature and an M.A. in Linguistics, he went on to get another B.A. in Islamic Studies and Da`wah from Al-Azhar University and an M.A. in Theoretical Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a member of the International Systemic Functional Linguistics Association (ISFLA). He taught ESL and linguistics courses in Egypt and has taught Arabic at various levels at the Universities of Illinois and Utah since 2000. He is also the Principal of Utah Arabic Academy.
