Yervant1
'TREASON OR PLOT?' By Hakob Chakrian AZG Armenian Daily 16/03/2006 Halil Berktay Allegedly Requested Financial Aid from Diasporan Armenians. This was the title of an article in Turkish Vatan newspaper on March 13 that dealt with an email allegedly sent by professor of Sabanci University, Halil Berktay, to history professor at Minnesota University, Stephan Weinstein. In March 10 and 11 issues of Vatan, columnist Ruhat Mengi without checking authenticity of the email commented on it meanwhile demanding that Berktay reveal other Turkish scientists who receive money form the Armenians. By doing so he arose uproar and allowed to suspect Berktay in treason. Why? Because Berktay, according to Mengi, defined deportation of Armenians in 1915 as genocide, called the Armenian Genocide an undisputed fact, called a renowned scientists as Bernard Luis Justin McCarty a hired scholar of Turkey, dubbed Turkish scholars backing official thesis "fascists concealing the truth" as well as established close ties with the Armenian Diaspora. As to the email, Prof. Berktay urged Weinstein to ban the participation of Yusuf Halacoglu, head of Turkish History Foundation, and Gyunduz Aktan in the panel of PBS TV and added that "scientists backing our views on Genocide should be invited. We should discover them and give chance to voice their opinion. We need to secure necessary financial means for that." Berktay refuted the allegations calling them clear slander and then he said: "First of all Stephen Weinstein is an American Jew and does not accept the fact of the Armenian genocide. He criticized in an article those opposing the participation of Halacoglu and Aktan in the TV show. I turned to Weinstein via the Internet to back his approach. I do not know him personally and I have never been to the University of Minnesota nor have I made a speech there. I believe this issue goes deeper than just questioning 'was the deportation of 1915 a genocide or not?' I opposed to those blocking discussions on the matter. As to financial support, it is an incredible lie that has hurt my self-esteem and I am going to sue." The American historian confirmed Berktay's words. He said the email is a fiction and that he knows neither Aktan nor Halacoglu and has never met Berktay. Stephen Weinstein's words well answer the question posed in the title of the article underscoring that Berktay is a victim of a plot. Prof. Halil Berktay is one of those Turkish scholars who recognize the Armenian Genocide. In the created situation when the freedom of speech is gaining momentum in Turkey, some circles strive not to limit the freedom of thought of scientists but rather to force them give up their views by various means. It's over doubt that any scientist facing an accusation of treason will prefer to keep his mouth shut on Genocide issues than playing with fire. Arpa
'TREASON OR PLOT?' By Hakob Chakrian AZG Armenian Daily 16/03/2006 Halil Berktay Allegedly Requested Financial Aid from Diasporan Armenians. Those poor, poor bastards! Poor Turks! It takes a little longer for certain people to learn, but learn they do, however slowly. Not only that, not only they have learned, they have also become masters in the art, now they have a whole industry, and institutes of “victimology”. One wonders who is their instructors are. Those poor, poor bastards. If they only knew that this whole thing is only the tip of the iceberg. Little do they know that Armenians not only have wrapped the US Congress and the media around their little finger, they also have whole of Ankara dancing at the end of a string. They ain’t seen not’n yet! Wait till that POWWERRRRRRFULLLLL Armenian Lobby really bares its fangs and uses its power and its control of all the tea in China and petroleum deposits in the sewers of Yerevan… Then , and only then those poor, poor bastards will understand what a POWWERRRFFULL lobby really is. Of course, we did not know that in 1994 Armenians spent $7,00,000 lobbying the US congress when we did not even have 700 cents to send an orphan in Gumri some bread and a pair of used shoes. It would be funny if it were not sad. But then again, amen, so be it! We have that most POWERFUL ARMENIAN LOBBY In case we didn’t know what "self fulfilling prophecy” is, it is when ones' hallucinations come to pass. This whole thing will be declared a prophecy when that “powerful Armenian lobby” gets a hold of all those “institutes of victimlogy” and “denialogy” and reduces them to an “Ap M@ Mokhir Shuneri Tun”. ("A Fistful of Ashes" by Siamanto). The below quote is found here; http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=12399&hl=sarikaya Last week, Fatma Sarikaya, a Board member of the Turkish Forum, translated into English and posted on the Forum’s web site a summarized version of an article on the Armenian-American lobby, written by Dr. Senol Kantarci, a researcher at the Institute for Armenian Research. The article was originally written in Turkish and published in the Institute’s periodical in 2001, under the title: "The Armenian Lobby: The Creation of the Armenian Diaspora in America and the Lobby’s Activities." While Kantarci’s Turkish article remained unknown and unread, Sarikaya’s English translation attracted widespread attention after it was posted on several Turkish and Armenian web sites. Her version had a more sensational title: "Money spent by the Armenian Lobby in America: In 1994 alone, the Armenian Assembly of America spent $7,000,000, most of it on lobbying the Congress." DominO123
He has not specifically called it genocide, but specified that the word is not important but the tragedy is. As for the financial help, it is highly unlikely that if that was to happen, the email would have been available as it is claimed. And why would he do that, since from the position he maintains regarding the subject the government is probably watching him very closelly and on his bank accounts. Yervant1
I thought Turks had more political savvy before but now their politics is like a quicksand the more they deny and defend their case with demonstrations (in Berlin for tallat posha) the more they advertise the reality of the matter. We don't need the lobby anymore the Turks are the greatest lobby for us. Is this desperation or what?

We don't need the lobby anymore the Turks are the greatest lobby for us. Is this desperation or what? I couldn’t say it any better. Maybe I could. I have, much to my objections, made to believe that the Turks are such sophisticated politicians, much to OUR discredit. Are they really? I have, on many occasions used the analogy of the “quicksand”. They are in such slippery slope that all we have to do is just sit tight, maybe add more water and sand to that mire, and watch them sink, perhaps with a little nudge here and there. The more they thrash about, the more they will sink, except ,they don‘t know this, every time they organize a rally around that dog aka Talaat “posha“ they will reignite OUR flame, and BUY US more free publicity. Every time they do, it reminds me of; “Yankee turkey went to town, Riding on an eshek, He stuck a (turkey) feather in his cap And called it “menq Hay enq” macaroni“. The only “fly in this ointment”, so to speak is… Dear Yervant. Why did you choose to post this thread under the general subject topic of “Genocide”? That is the subject topic that I hate most to visit. Well, maybe second most after Ara’s “bullshit” column. Why do we even have a subject topic known as “Genocide”? Could we not say the same things if that subject topic were hidden in in places like ”history”, “culture””politics”, or simply “other”. With all due respects to Raphael Lemkin. Why is it that we take so much PRIDE in that word? Why do we, the HyeForum has seen fit to create a whole category for it? Is it a “feather in our cap”? Is it something to be proud of? Is that most shameful era of our existence something to flaunt to the world? Is it, as some have said; “our definition of our existence”, our “raison d’etre”? Conduct an internet search using “Armenian” as your keyword and see why it is always, 99.9 % of the times linked to “genocide”. Do we have anything else to offer the world??!! SHUT ME UP!!!! Getting back to Yankee Doodle. Let us “stick another feather in our caps”. We have had enough “turkey feathers”. Let THEM stick it where it hurts most. Dear Arpa, I thought the mods would want me to put it there since it deals with the Genocide issue. Your remarks about not wanting to talk about the Genocide awoke certain feelings in me that I had, when I was a teenager. My dad never spoke to me about the Genocide, maybe he was sheilding me from it or he didn't want to experience the pain all over again. But my mom cried a lot about the loss of her family. My feelings at the time was that the Genocide pain was a big load on our young shoulders, every time I expressed my feelings about it to others that why are we putting this heavy load on our youngsters shoulders, as if everyday pressure is not enough? I was made to feel guilty that I'm forgetting the Genocide. In reality I always wished that we never had the Genocide so that we can live our lives normal like others. I think Hrant Dink was right when he said that these feelings are poisoning us. On a happier note I like your yankee turkey went to town song. Yervant1
The Turks came to Berlin to celebrate Talaat "Posha" day, ended up losing the right to deny the Genocide as a lie on placards or in speech. Can't wait for their next venture. TURKISH NATIONALISTS PROTEST IN BERLIN OVER RESOLUTION ON ARMENIANS Deutsche Presse-Agentur March 18, 2006, Saturday 13:05:07 Central European Time More than 2,000 Turkish nationalists demonstrated in Berlin on Saturday in support of denials that a genocide of Armenians took place under the Ottoman Empire in 1915. The protestors demanded among other things the repeal of a resolution passed by a unanimous vote in the German parliament last year that called on Turkey to hold an open dialogue on the Armenian massacre. The resolution has contributed to a rift between Germany and Turkey. According to independent estimates, more than a million Armenians were killed in the massacre. A Berlin court on Friday allowed the demonstration to take place under strict conditions, included not characterizing the Armenian massacre as a lie in either speech or on placards. The march had originally been banned by the police. Edited March 20, 2006 by Yervant1

What we need is more Turks demonstrating...their pantless behinds!! ===== From Groong 3/2106 Below the last two paragraphs GERMAN AND FRENCH WARN TURKS FOR ATTEMPTS TO RENOUNCE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE Panorama.am 14:09 20/03/06 It should be mentioned that the demonstration turned in favor of the Armenians. As it is known, demonstrations were held in French cities Lion and Marsalis. And here the French defended the Armenian Trial. The procession of Turkish nationalists organized in Lion had a dramatic end. Yet, French (!) demonstrators stood on the way of the Turkish demonstrators and the police had to use tear-gas to calm the demonstrators. Speaking of POWWWERRRRFULLL LOBBY... In the latest US News David Gergen , a well known commentator and denizen on many TV News and editorials… http://www.davidgergen.com/ Has an editorial http://www.usnews.com/usnews/opinion/artic...60403/3edit.htm As you can see David is angry because two other commentators had implied that the Jewish Lobby runs the US Congress and US policy. Even if one the those commentators may have a Jewish sounding surname, David professes to be Christian. yEAH RIGHT! What kind of Christian? The kind that believes after God created the Jew He broke the mold and threw it away? Whatever this gobble-di-gook is it is their business but look what he says in the following (quote)paragraph. Do you wonder where Turks are getting their lesson about the “powerful Armenian lobby”!! Commitment. To be sure, pro-Israeli groups in this country, led by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, push hard to gain the support of U.S. political leaders and public opinion in favor of positions that keep Israel strong and secure. AIPAC is officially registered as a lobbying group, and it is very effective. But that does not mean that its members are somehow disserving America or engaging in something sinister. The Founding Fathers believed interest groups were intrinsic to democracy (see Madison, Federalist 10), and anyone who thinks Jews are unusual hasn't met the Irish, Italians, Greeks, and Armenians who lobby just as hard for their brethren Edited April 1, 2006 by Arpa
phantom22
When the Soviet Union disintegrated, the geo-political situation changed. The Turkish authorities are grasping for threads to restore the influence they had in the past. Iraq was a feather in their cap for awhile, despite the fact that they turned down the request for American troops to use Turkey to invade Southern Kurdistan (known as northern Iraq). They think that they can play the same game they have played for decades, but the rules of the game have changed. Who would have thought a few years ago that they would lose the support of their most avid American congressional representative, Congressman Lantos, or that he would be avidly supporting an Armenian-American for public office? Arpa, the term "Genocide" is not that critical. A group of Armenian attorneys are hitting those who reaped windfall profits from the destruction of the Armenian community. It goes well beyond Turkey. It is such nuts-and-bolts issues that will bring to light what transpired. Much of the fault is ours. By focusing solely on ourselves, and ignoring the fate of the Pontic Greeks and Assyrians, we give the Turkish government an opening to claim "treasonous Armenians." When these other victims are included in the argument, the Turkish protestations evaporate. What reasons can they conjure up for the annihilation of these other groups? phantom22
The latest news out of London is that a joint UK-US invasion of Iran is in the making. No doubt the madman who runs Iran accelerated this. The Azeris and the Turks will use this to re-establish their tarnished image. The Azeris will want enosis with Iranian Azerbaijan. Will the Turks allow American and British troops to pass through Turkey this time? Are we going to be "collateral damage" again? If only the Turks were decent, ROA would have other options than being wrapped in the bosom of Iran.
