OK ladies and gentlemen start your engines. Since it is obvious that many of us have so much “gas” to burn, let us see what it is that makes us tick.

We have at times talked about Phobia Armeniaca and Philarmenia, assuming that the former may be viewed bys some as illnesses , let us consider “malady” of ours.

BTW. I am posting this under “other” since” it is not intended to be a religious, theological debate, it may qualify as “culture”, however….

Is it me or others also do this?

Do other ethnic internet sites talk about religion as much as we do?

Why is it that when two Armenians come together, at least 50% of the conversation will be about religion, even if more than half of us profess to be agnostics, cynics or outright atheists.

Why are Armenians so defensive and protective about “our” religion?

Did we invent it?

Did someone or something assign us as champions and protectors of Christianity?

Is someone paying us?

At best, we may be 0.001% (??) of Christendom but if one would listen to us one would think we are the only Christians.

I’ll leave it here.

Let’s see if someone an convince me that we were placed on this Earth as Heavens’ gift to mankind with a “mission”.

Note; I can think at least one other people, in a country immediately to the south of Armenia that behaves in similar manner, i.e. act as champion and defender of a religion that they had no part inventing.

Also note that I use “invent” when it comes to religion. However, as the saying goes- “Necessity is the mother of invention”, hence it follows that we have/do feel the necessity of religion.

Arpa I had discussions with many people about this same topic and came to a conlusion. Of course this is my opinion only.

We as people generaly speaking are not able to distinguish between RACE and RELIGION. We've been brainwashed so bad that it's unthinkable to be Armenian and not be christian.

Having said that if you ask an Armenian about our clerics most will say they are devils in black cloth. How do I know this? Have yu're own investigation and yu'll find out. I'm sure you know this already.

One other thing that comes to mind is that the church kept telling us that without it we couldn't have survived as a nation. Who knows may be may be not that's the million dollar statement.

I told an university graduate student that Armenian and religion are two different things, he stopped me quickley and said one can't be without the other, there you go one educated dupe for you. I think I said enough.

=======.

I had totally forgotten about this.

Yes, Yervant. I had a similar encounter with a highly educated professor of biophysics from Yerevan University, born and raised in Artsakh, who was here with a grant on a very sophisticated research project.

After having professed to being an atheist, in the same sentence he said the same as your friend above.

All I could do was scratch my head and say (to myself); “Duh! How come we didn’t know that there is such a thing as ‘Christian atheist’ ”!!

I bet those so called Christian atheists go to church, the house of Theo/God and light candles too.

Let’s see how many here have met such atheistic Christians

BTW. He also used some strong words regarding Jesus' ethnicity.

Just as, at another encounter, a priest, a graduate of the Seminary at Ejmiatsin, who had been having issues with his congregeation and the parish council about his too much Armenian business and not enough Jesus. Being aware of and trusting my broadmindedness confided in me; “What the F does Jesus have with the Armenian Church!”

Another atheistic “ 'apostle ' of Jesus Christian"?

Should one ask why I am such a cynical agnostic?
