New album due this summer

While they work furiously on their second album, System of a Down are asking their fans to do some work. The band is launching an online contest to redesign its current logo.

"We don't want a logo that incorporates photos of the band or any original art," explained System bassist Shavo Odadjian, "and we're hoping that people will be more creative than to just manipulate fonts on a computer."

SOAD are counting on fans to invent something better than the current logo -- black letters with each word of the band's name on a separate white background. The winner will be chosen by the band and receive a new Ibenez guitar, the same brand used by guitarist Daron Malakian, signed by all four members of the band.

Contest entries are due May 15th and can be e-mailed to artwork@streetwise.com or mailed to:

The winner and his or her logo will be featured on www.systemofadown.com on June 15th.

As for the forthcoming record, SOAD are still in the studio with producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers), recording thirty-two new songs, which will be narrowed down to thirteen in the coming weeks. Look for the band to perform a few one-off radio gigs in the spring before launching a full-fledged tour in late summer around the time of the record's release.
