*

World famous linguist and armenologist Giancarlo Bolognesi died in Milan on December 20, Haraj newspaper of Paris reports. The great Italian linguist stands among such armenologists as Hubschmann, Atcharian, Peterson, Benvegna and Jahukian. Bolognesi spent more than 30 years as a lecturer at the Catholic University of Milan, meanwhile studying, Iranian, Greek and Latin. He was an authoritative specialist of comparative analysis of Armenian and Iranian languages. He studied the origin of loan words that the New Persian borrowed from Armenian dialects and thoroughly studied Armenian original texts translated from Greek writing a book on it in 2000 titled "Survey and Clarification of Ancient Armenian Texts Translated from Greek." The Armenian-Iranian comparative-historic analysis was assembled in "Armenian Dialectical Sources Borrowed from Iranian" issued in 1960.
