Arpa
There is an old curse in the Marash vernacular. “Babenik hanes” Some may go even further and say “babenik ew mamenik”. This had perplexed me for a long time. How can “baba/papa” and “mama” be a subject of a curse? I asked a wise old Marashtsi what it meant. She told me that “babenik” was an affliction with boils and sores all over the body. AHA!!! The old light bulb!! Bubonic?? http://www.rhymes.org.uk/ring_around_the_rosy.htm Edited December 29, 2005 by Arpa
