karakash
http://www.agbu.org/ypgny/nye2006/ Any volunteers or I should point out and assign? I'll be there. I went two years ago and would have gone last year had I not been in Syria and Armenia.
gamavor
Went too few years back. The party was in the Puck Building somewhere close to NY University, if I'm not mistaken. The Puck building was Packed with Armenians. Haven't seen so many Armenians in one place. Overall was OK except the music. If they are going again to invite JOHN don't know who from New Jersey Band that tries hard to sale his music as Armenian they will repulse a good % of people who intend to go. Vanetsi, no need to wait New Year for the cigars. Just bring some tomorrow:)

The AGBU New Year's Eve thing is in its 4th year and it is once again being held at the Union Square Ballroom, conveniently located in Union Square... Two years ago, it was a DJ. I'm guessing it will be a DJ again. If you want other types of music, Harout Pamboukjian is going to be in London; Paul Baghdadlian is going to be in Boston; and Onnik Dinkjian is going to be at a hotel in NJ. gamavor
You might be thinking about the ASA Artist's Ball. Johnny Roubian is who you are talking about... That is right. My bad! It was the Artist's Ball. If you want other types of music, Harout Pamboukjian is going to be in London; Paul Baghdadlian is going to be in Boston; and Onnik Dinkjian is going to be at a hotel in NJ. Sorry, none of them is in my list of favorites.
karakash
That is right. My bad! It was the Artist's Ball. Sorry, none of them is in my list of favorites. What do you like (in terms of Armenian music), if anything?
gamavor
Gomidas, Ekmalian, and few others along with some pure folk. Those mentioned by you are not even rabiz...they are outright arabic. I like and listen a lot Armenian rock (recently) and jazz. You can find from time to time some real gems. But you are right - in general I don't listen too much of Armenian music.

Can we sue those so called Armenian bands for false advertising and misrepresentation? Don’t they, as commercial enterprises fall under the Truth in Advertising law? When advertising a product, say as dairy, don’t’ they have to have at least one such ingredient ? Which of the instruments of the so called Armenian bands is Armenian? Oud? Dumbek? Clarinet? Cis-boom-bah drum set? Guitar? Accordion? Keyboard? Has anyone seen one of those bands feature at least one genuine Armenian instrument like duduk, zurna, dhol, qanon, kamancha, saz, tar…? Of course, there will be those to contest the authenticity of the above but at least those are the instruments featured by traditional folk ensembles. Do you think there should be a law? Why can’t we dance to the music of the likes of Komitas and other troubadours? Komitas has written beautiful dance music like Ghaitarma, Vagharshapati Par etc., even Khachaturian has written the Lezginka and Aisha’s Dance among others. We have freely advertised every foreign culture, including but not limited to Arabic, Turkish, Gypsy, Spanish … Is it not time to rediscover our own? And these so called Armenian bands who pretend to be our ambassadors should be held responsible.
