Guest Posted February 17, 2001 Report Share Posted February 17, 2001 ARMENIAN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA LOOKS FORWARD WITH OPTIMISM YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 15, ARMENPRESS: The new director of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra Nika Babayan praised his predecessor Loris Chgnavorian for leaving a "well organized" legacy, that includs a highly professional group of musicians and other advanced facilities. "Fron now on the main goal of the Orchestra will be quite different, we shall have to look for younger musicians to secure the Orchestra's future," he said to Armenpress. He dismissed rumors that Chgnavorian was forced to resign. "Chgnavorian had just exhausted himself in this post and needed new horizons, regarding his "mission" completed in Armenia," Babayan said. The new head of the Orchestra also dismissed allegations that the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) would not continue sponsoring the Orchestra. "Providing assistance to Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the priorities of the AGBU, and moreover, the AGBU will also sponsor the National Opera performances" he said.
