Ah, a model example of strategic thinking. Harut used the magic alibi that will set you free of anything illegal you do. Surely, it includes a border case like steeling the electric waves.

Obviously morally and ethically it is wrong unless you tell your neighbor and they agree. Legally, I don't know. Security wise, it's a big risk as maybe someone left it open on purpose.

Recently I read somebody was sued (and I think got a jail term but not sure) for using somebody elses wireless connection. But this was a little different as he was not using a neighbors wireless from home. This guy used to park in front of this other guy's home everyday and start using his laptop. He was not from that neighborhood and nobody knew him so it raised suspicions.

I dont see anything wrong with it.  if they are foolish enough to not encrypt the signal then its your to use.

Remember not to poke around their network

during my next job interview...

"have you been convicted before?"

"yes"

"for what?"

"for steeling waves"

"what? what kind of waves?"

"surffing waves"

"what are you talking about?"

"you know... the ones you use to surf"

"i didn't know you can get convicted for that"

"yeah... me neither..."

"ok... i'll call you..."

Hmm, that's a good questions... let me think. One thing you could do is as a good citizen you could notify your neighbor that you have found his lost waves and would like to return them.

How about leaving a virus that would delete half of the files from his hard drive, turn on the Window's media player and say "thank you!!!" :)
