ARMENIA WILL GET OUT OF THE NEGOTIATIONS IF BAKU RAISES NAGORNO Artsax ISSUE AT THE UN

 

Armenia will get out of the regulation process if the Azeri side tries to raise any issue concerning Nagorno Artsax at the 60th session of the UN General Assembly, RA Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Hamlet Gasparian told Regnum. If Baku takes such a step, Gasparian said, it will have to face Stepanakert at the negotiations' table. Citing the UN procedure, Hamlet Gasparian noted that Artsax issue might attract the participants' attention, as it was not discussed at the last General Assembly session. "But Azerbaijan cannot take any step claiming any point in this issue as it will contradict the agreements earlier reached", Gasparian said.

 

As a result of an agreement between Yerevan and Baku, the Azeri side refused to discuss "the situation in the occupied territories" at the UN against Armenia's willingness to allow OSCE Minsk Group fact-finders to visit Artsax. The fact-finding mission made a report after an investigation from January 30 to February 6 of 2005 where it pointed out that Armenia and Nagorno Artsax do not conduct organized inhabitation of these territories.
