Zartonk Posted July 26, 2005 Report Share Posted July 26, 2005 (edited) Considered on of the most influencial Armenian composers, Khachatur Avetisian was born in a city famed for its trabadourial talents, Gyumri, Armenia. He graduated from the Komitas Conservatory of music in Yerevan where he studied composition with composer professor Edward Mirzoyan. At age 25 he was the first Armenian composer honored with gold medals in Berlin and Moscow International competitions. In addition to his studies in Classical music, Khachatur Avetisyan became an authority in Armenian folk music and traditional instruments, especially the Kanon. In fact, he is responsible for the first concerto for Kanon and Symphony Orchestra in 1954. Khachtur Avetisyan dedicated his entire creative life to researching and developing the performance practice of Armenian folk music. He founded the Folk music department of Komitas National Conservatory in 1978 where under his influence, an entire generation of master instrumentalists was trained. Avetisian dedicated his creative numerous famous songs, ballet, oratorios, film and dance compositions, as well as alarge number of works for various folk instruments. A select few of his songs are deeply imbeded in the modern musical conciousness of a Armenians. His brilliabt melodic works reveal a refined lyricism. In 1958 he assumed the role of the artistic director of the National Dance Ensemble and later of the Tatoul Altunian Song and Dance Ensemble, where his new instrumental and vocal music became the staple of the repertory. Truley a giant of our Folk and Classical music, his works are some of the best known and most enjoyable pieces around.
