Genocide Database

hi,

i just saw a commercial on tv with an advertisement that promotes a web site where jews can visit and enter names of dead family/relatives and so on.

 

I am wondering, why isn't there one for armenians (genocide), online database that is?

 

if there is one, would anyone know where i can find it?

what do you think about starting an armenian genocide

database of people killed?

 

why? One reason. Just like the jews did it for the

concentration camps, they showed the whole world 6

million reasons. Its tangible evidence to show the

world in the future of the sheer size and tragedy of

the genocide. Instead of just saying a number, each

number corresponds to a name of an individual/family

that suffered the consequences.

 

Remember, the turks would love to see the passing of

time, if/when enough generations pass without

accountablity, then it's easier to inject doubt and

manipulate historical facts to their advantage to

people who are foreign to armenian past.

 

the longer time passes, the less likely future

generations will remember the names of the beloved

that were murdered. Why are the names important? It

is our tangible evidence to skeptics and

non-believers.

 

saying 1.5 million vs. saying 1.5 million with names

to prove it, HUGE difference to the rational

listner/reader.

 

 

we do have some challenges...

mainly validating the names of individuals/families

with the # of people murdered. The one thing that all

skeptics will ask is...

"how can one verify that these names are all true?"

 

I am interested in hearing your thoughts on this

matter. Remember, it may not be a big deal to you now,

but I would hate for someone to look back at this

WINDOW of OPPORTUNITY and wonder why we didn't do it.

"why do it now?"

 

-these are crucial times. It's when we have enough

detailed accounts/info about the event and the

resources to record them digitally.

 

-technical resources (both in terms of knowledge and

software/hardware) are available at relatively

inexpensive prices

 

-we have the ability to create a software soln that

will be accessible by people/historians across the

world, where they can submit requests for inclusion

 

in the past, either one or the other was not

available, and this would explain the inaction, but

lets not miss this Window of Opportunity!

I often think about the real names of people who perished in the Genocide, we keep talking about Yegherni zoheruh but we should stop and think about their names and what they did in life, what were their vocations,what were their daily lives like that came to a sudden stop, etc...

 

It's a great idea to put real names besides the real victims. The simple fact is that we don't or can't possibly know who they were. The Nazis, true to their German characteristics of keeping order and discipline, painstakingly took meticulous notes of who were being deported and how many were being "processed", the synagogues and their registries were not destroyed. In our case is different. Although the personal properties were "recorded" buy the Ottoman officials on the eve of the deportations, I think that was just a pretense to keep the calm rather than an attempt to truthfully keep a registry of the people being deported who were not to be seen again...

 

The records kept in their files were about the properties to be looted and divided between them.

 

My own family's experience is that the clerks in the orphanage simply gave random "family names" to the infant children gathered from here and there. So my dear armjan, imagine I don't even know the names of my own ancestors let alone the names of the victims in other parts of Anatolia.

 

All those victims had names, family history and stories that are all but destroyed.
