IT IS ALREADY FOURTH TIME THAT ARMENIAN ART IS REPRESENTED AT VENICE BIENNIALE

The Armenian works of art, exhibited in Venice have received a lot of attention because of their originality.

Armenian avant-garde artists have been participating in the biennial since 1995, at the initiative and financial support of Sonya and Edward Palasanian, founders of the innovative experimental arts center. Three Armenian avant-garde artists have received high praise from foreign media and art critics. Preparation for the 49th biennial started in November 2000, with 15 participants.

Deputy Minister of Culture Karen Aristakessian, who has just come back from Venice, has stated that from now on the government will also participate in supporting the Armenian artists in participating in the Venice biennial. The Armenian President has promised to help in the negotiations with the Venice Mayor so that Armenia can have its own stand during the exhibition. The Deputy Minister also informed that in a few days, a special committee would be set up to start preparing for the 50th biennial. The Armenian stand for the next biennial will also be prepared by the Innovative Experimental Arts Center. Edward Palasanian has been appointed to represent the Armenian stand. The Armenian Minister of Culture has presented special awards to Sonya and Edward Palasanian, art director of the Innovative Experimental Arts Center and to the Armenian participants of the 49th biennial for the work that has been done so far.
