Nakharar
Turkish Daily News March 26 2005 From the Columns Who's next? Belarus, Armenia? Sabah's Erdal Safak likened the "democratic revolution" to an epidemic that has no cure and said the disease spread to Kyrgyzstan in the end. "In fact, it was predictable," he said, referring to U.S. President George W. Bush's address to a crowd in Bratislava on Feb. 25 characterizing youth as the advance forces of democracy. Dwelling on post-revolution scenarios, Safak assumed that a commission consisting of representatives from the opposition and perhaps from the ruling party would seize the administration in the transition period, set a date to elect a new president and then renew the electoral system. "Then where will this virus stop? Although Belarus tops the list, our favorite is Armenia," he said, noting that the leader of the opposition party in Armenia had given signs of a revolution. "Aram Karapetyan said he would make people rush out into the streets in April and added that the opposition would use weapons if necessary." Copyright 2005, Turkish Daily News.
