Accelerated Posted January 21, 2005 Report Share Posted January 21, 2005 hello troop, I need some help: I got a cable modem (Mototolla SB5100), and an ethernet broadband router (D-Link DI-704UP). Connected 2 PCs (running XP) + printer to the router. I can access the net and the router setup from both PCs, but cant see the other PC from one or the other on the network, and cant print to the printer either (trying to use the router as a print server). It doest have anything to do with sharing I dont think and Ive tried turning the windows firewall off, also to no avail. I figure its got something to do with openning/closing certain ports or what not. any ideas? Thanks in advance. If you need more detail, let me know.In windows, on each PC run "cmd" which will bring up a command window.Type "ipconfig" and note the ip address associated with your network card. It will be in the form 192.168.0.100 or something like thatLet's suppose PC 1 is 192.168.0.100 and PC 2 is 192.168.0.101On PC 1, type "ping 192.168.0.101" ... it should get "reply from " and then PC 2's IP address.On PC 2, do the same thing, but ping PC 1's IP address. You should get a reply back.If this works, which it should, then we can go on from there. If not, then we have to get this to work before anything else. Sip Posted January 21, 2005 Report Share Posted January 21, 2005 Ok so let me get this straight. From PC 1, you can ping PC 2 fine. From PC 2, you can't ping PC 1 back. From both PCs you can ping the router. If this is the case, then either the router is blocking the packets from PC 2 from getting to PC 1 (unlikely unless you have set it yourself), or PC 1 is dropping them due to firewall, or other misconfiguration. Sip Posted January 21, 2005 Report Share Posted January 21, 2005 First thing I would do is to remove the TCP/IP and other networking components from the control panel networking applet, restart, and then install them again. I got this 'Kerio Personal Firewall' software installed on both PCs, but its disabled. Both PCs have same Symantes antivirus also. I havnt touched the settings, but it pings only one way.
