Stormig Posted January 20, 2005 Report Share Posted January 20, 2005 The birthrightarmenia.org dictionary gives the following for "perhaps" - արդյոք գուցե թեկուզ թերեւս Slight problem, though - the արդյոք is transliterated as artsyok. How did they make such a mistake? Secondly, I was wondering if there are nuances among the four. If so, could some example sentences with explanations be provided? Thanks in advance. However = Aynuamenayniv (pronounced ayn-oo-amen-ayn-eev) Possibly = Havanabar Whether = Te, Ardyoq Perhaps/Maybe = Gutse (pronounced gootseh) (though most people in Armenia use the slang "mi gutse" instead) Deryevs = Still, Yet, Even (sort of like "and still") (we western Armenians use "terevs" for "maybe" which doesn't make sense to me) Tekuz = Even, Though. All this gets confusing since we Western Armenians have 2 letter "T"s. deryevs (with a rolling "r") means = Still, Yet, Even (sort of like "and still") teryevs - Perhaps, Probably Though I don't really hear anyone here in Armenia using the second one, but instead they say "mi guce". I was just talking to my Stantsi friend and she said they don't really use "havanapar" -- we Westerners use it a lot. I'd actually never heard of teryevs (deryevs) used as "still" -- you learn something every day. We also use "gareli" (kareli) to mean possibly/maybe.
