Consider that it took no more than 5 years for Russia to rebuild after the most destructive war in history. It's been twenty years since the earthquake and parts of Leninakan are still in rubble; tens of thousands of victims are still homeless. Such facts are attributable to criminal negligence on the part of the bourgeois gangsters in the current "government".

Well, their house was not seriously damaged and they were not made homeless by the earthquake. That's what I meant. Other than that, I personally do not know what kind of an impact the earthquake because I don't know anyone else from Leninakan. All of my family in Armenia lives in Yerevan.

Some "independence". What has happened is a bunch of sleazy thugs and gangsters allied with imperialists established themselves as the ruling class in the country. They looted the economy and impoverished the people. One-third of the country's population have fled the country and the level of the economy is still below that of 1989. Simply put, criminals rule Armenia. Degenerate habits, customs, ideas of foreign origin are subverting the culture. One example of many is how anti-social foreign cults such as Mormons and Jehova's Witnesses have established a foothold in the country with the aim of destroying our way of life. There has been a general moral collapse. Casinos and prostitutes are all over the place. There have been sharp increases in homelessness, drug abuse, alcoholism, malnutrition, and crime. What has been happening in my fatherland for these last 18 years is genocidal.

Ter-Petrossian has done as much, if not more harm to Armenians than Abdul Hamid and the Young Turk triumvirate. Under his misrule the economy has been wrecked to such a degree that production today is still below the 1989 level. As a result, one-third of the population has fled the country. Our fatherland went from a modern, developed country to a poverty-stricken nightmare. That Ter-Petrossian is not in prison is inhumane.

My aunt and cousins have lived in Leninakan since 1946 but were not affected by the earthquake in a major way.
