  1. Please, dont fight here . Let's take down to the topic of this forum. Official Armenian is the Armenian of Armenian State - The Republic of Armenia. Until the Armenians in US or Europe make another Armenia country with different language it would be so. If Western Armenian is so important I can add a "West Armenian" tab in our dictionary. For Armenians living in US and Europe it may be easier to learn West Armenian. It would be also easier for foreigner to learn Armenian because Eastern Armenian is harder for pronouncing. And maybe it can help to unite both armenians languages, or at least it will help western and eastern armenians to understand each other easier. However, filling of this "Western Armenian" section should be responsibility of the people in this forum. I don't know western Armenian well enough to do this. Then the project should be: English-East. Armenian-West. Armenian - Russian - Bulgarian Dictionary Please, understand. If Armenians do not get together on a concrete project and continue to quarrel about language differences we would never have Armenian dictionary and modern Armenian state. I can not complete a full Armenian dictionary, containing both eastern and western armenian, alone. If someone is interested please send me e-mail: alisa_g@abv.bg .

  3. Arpa, Just one word "յուղ" = "ԻՒՂ" , we are using Eastern Armenian. The words "ԵՂ", "ԵՈՂ" are dialects. I dont have intentions to make evolution of Armenian The english meaning of all english words are taken from Oxford and other independent reliable sources. Even if someone is not expert in a field he should be able to understand and translate it. The only exception is if it is a special terminology and he dont know the Armenian word. These words however are not so much. Also there is also translations of all words to Bulgarian and Russian and they are from different sources, if there is error in the English tab, which is very improbably, it will become clear from the Bulgarian and Russian explanations. Anyway, if you feel expert in some area, you can always correct or add something in the dictionary. Any help is welcomed.
  4. Hi. If this database can be from some help I can send it to you. However it is in special format...., also it is incomplete. Do you think that you can make a project for people to format and edit the text through web? Would it be fast enough?
  5. Ok, I will try to answer to your questions. 1. ... what dictionaries are you going to use?? For now the dictionary contains translations from the following sources: 1. The Concise Oxford Dictionary 2. The Oxford Thesaurus An A-Z Dictionary of Synonyms. 3. webster dictionary 4. A.E.Muller English-Russian dictionary 5. English-Russian dictionary 6. Russian-English dictionary 7. Ефремова Т.Ф. 8. С.Ожегова Толковый словарь 9. Словарь иностранных слов 10. Медицинский словарь - OXFORD 11. SA dictionary Bulgarian-English 12. SA dictionary English-Bulgarian 13. Божидар Стефанов "Кратък Речник Термини, Околна среда, екология..." 14. J. Stenesh Dictionary of Biology If you have some good armenian-russian or armenian-english dictionary in any text format it would be from big help. 2. ....do you have the proper permissions? Well..., we had not think about that. I dont think that there would be a problem. All of these dictionaries have printed copy or are available online. Also all of the text in English, Bulgarian and Russian sections is manually edited. 3. Do you already have this dictionary or you are trying to create it by taking existing dictionaries? Well, the dictionary is under development. Programing and interfaces are already made. My boyfriend is software developer . The dictionary has an special optimized database which allows it to work very fast land to use only about 50 MB RAM (that was for the full version which contains 350 000 words). 4.... what you are proposing? I am proposing to split the database and everyone here to take a piece of it. The only requierment is to know Armenian and English (Russian and Bulgarian is also Ok). The interfaces of the dictionary are quite convenient (we may improve them if there is problems) and you will edit it much faster then if you use word, excel or web. Anyway if you like it more I may try to send you the crude text in excel. For a 1-2 hours per day it is normal to complete about 1500 words per mount (at least that is my speed . The work is editing of the english section and adding corresponding meanings for armenian. For example for the word bluing, it is necessary to edit the following text: ---------------- bluing ['blu:iŋ] (p. pr. & vb. n.) of Blue Bluing (n.) The act of rendering blue, as, the bluing of steel. Bluing (n.) Something to give a bluish tint, as indigo, or preparations used by washerwomen. ---------------------- And of course to add translation to Armenian. I hope that I answered you. All other details we will discuss later. If you can offer something better I am eager to listen
  6. Just, Alice. Ok, I agree that it is better if a dictionary is edited by academicians & professors. However it requires a lot of time and work to make a dictionary from zero. Nobody is talking about this. I am talking about making electronic dictionary based on pre-existing electronic and hard-covered dictionaries. This can be made from one programmer and anyone who know Armenian. My proposal is very realistic. If we get to work we can make a very good and professional English-Russian-Armenian-Bulgarian dictionary for only 3 mounts.
  7. Hi guys. I saw that there is several other people here interested in electronic English-Armenian dictionary. It is a little odd that many armenians lives abroad but there is not a single decent professional Armenian-English-Russian electronic dictionary. And after all the Armenian is one of the oldest languages, as old as Latin, Greek and Hebrew. Ok, what I am proposing is development of cross-language dictionary between English, Armenian, Russian and may be one or two other languages. We had also developed something like that. Our dictionary is called Arabella and contains 46 000 words. As an auxiliary language we had added Bulgarian language (it is close to Russian, there is more then 80 000 armenians living in Bulgaria but it is impossible to find even a printed hardcover Bulgarian-Armenian Dictionary). I would like to know your opinion. I had attached screenshots below:
