  1. Do any of the Armenian members of this forum think that our ancestors came from the Balkans PERIOD(emphasis on the word period) ??? and that we today are the descendants of these people ? We are truly a mixture(culturally & genetically); not only of Anatolian peoples either...and a big part of this mixture is Urartu, Nairi, Haiassa-Aza and the likes... Even the most apolitic and culturally uninformed dandigin knows/thinks that we descended from the Urartu, and accepts this. So, for example; unlike the "Turks", she does not say "we are the descendants of Phrygians from the Balkans, period". "Turks" on the other hand -even though having only a minute amount of Central Asian Turkic genes, - insist on calling themselves Turks, just because they can speak the language more or less. Of course, there is nothing wrong with this. You are free to call yourself whatever you want, even if you know the facts or not. What is not right here, is when you change the name of the land , too. THIS IS UNJUST(along with the people who practice it). It is also unjust/uncivilized to say that you own this land, because your new adopted ancestors had been successful in invading and conquering it by sword and arrow. This whole notion would have been acceptable to those people that lived in the distant past, but should not be acceptable to today's "Turks", if they want to be counted as civilised. It is one thing to change your ethnicity (by your own will, under pressure, etc...) to the one of an invader, but it's another thing to claim the lands of the natives as your own, with your new ethnicity; regardless of what other ethnicities of the area think. At this age in time, no one nation should own a specific geographical area any more. SPECIALLY, if that nation is not a native of that land.
  2. does any1 know of any websites with English to Persian (or any other major language to Persian) or Armenian to Persian online dictionaries ? (but the Persian translations must be in Latin alphabet. i can not read the Arabic alphabet)
  3. i think that it is not necessary that Western Armenia is given to the Armenians. What i would really like to see is: 1)Republic of Turkey should cease to exist as Turkey. Instead, for example; it should be named Anatolia. 2)It should not belong to any 1 nation or religion as it does right now. Instead, it should be a multi-ethnic country, where; any group of people have the same rights as the others, and won't be oppressed/marginalized because of their nationality/religion/ideas etc... 3)It should be a truly democratic and progressive country.
  4. it is not enough just to become a reporter, journalist, etc... but, also must occupy much more influential(higher) positions in that kind of establishments; otherwise they may not let u report/write the subject/article/news of your choice. but, then again, even if some Armenians let's say succeded in buying the Fox Network and started devoting time to the genocide and other armenian issues, very soon 1 of 2 things will happen; 1)the fox network will be closed, or more likely 2)those armenians will be defamed/prisoned/bankrupted etc... in either case (1&2), these will be done by those ruling (officiallly and unoffically) circles that do not want to offend Turkey or whatever agenda they have... BTW, i wonder if it's just coincidence that they are going after Torricelli just when he introduced the legislation S.Res.307; maybe it is, maybe it is not.

  6. The word "bulbul" is actually used in English, and indicates a bird that belongs to the family Pycnonotidae. So, it can just be "do not cry my bulbul", "cry not my bulbul", or any similar variations... If u don't want to use "bulbul", using "lark" will also be ok i guess; even though larks belong to the family of songbirds called Alaudidae. Another good substitute is "nightingale".This is a songbird that belongs to yet a different family called the Turdinae. In fact, it's believed that the often mentioned "bulbul" in Persian poetry is probably the "nightingale". Nightingales have a melodious song that is often heard at night- thus, the name " nightingale". In Turkish-English dictionaries, "bulbul" is defined as "nightingale". As far as the lands - that the Armenians traditionally lived on - are concerned, among the above mentioned 3 songbirds (bulbuls, larks, nightingales), larks & nightingales are the more common ones. Again, as far as the traditional Armenian inhabited lands are concerned, bulbuls can only be seen in Cilicia. (NOTE: even though the research i did wasn't nearly as lengthy as i would have wanted it to be, i belive it is still noteworthy information)
