BREAKING: $500 Million AI Factory To Launch In Armenia By 2026, Powered By NVIDIA, Making it A Regional AI Powerhouse Armenia is set to become a regional powerhouse in artificial intelligence. Firebird, a San Francisco– and Yerevan-based AI cloud startup, has officially announced a $500 million public-private partnership with the Government of Armenia and NVIDIA to build the first AI supercomputing data center in the Caucasus region. Within the framework of the project: * a $500 million investment will be made, * thousands of NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs will be deployed, * an infrastructure with more than 100 megawatts of power will be established, * the launch is planned for 2026 Unveiled at NVIDIA’s GTC Paris at VivaTech on June 11, the project will launch in 2026, deploying thousands of NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs with an infrastructure capable of scaling to over 100 megawatts of power. This next-generation “AI factory” will be Armenia’s largest tech infrastructure investment to date. Firebird, which emerged from stealth mode at the event, announced an ambitious vision to put Armenia on the AI map by building high-performance, sustainable infrastructure in emerging markets — starting with Armenia. Alongside the Armenian government and with support from NVIDIA, Firebird outlined its plan to build advanced AI infrastructure that accelerates technological innovation and establishes the Caucasus region as an AI hub. The project also received strong backing from NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang, who stated, “AI factories are the infrastructure of the 21st century. Firebird is one of several companies contributing NVIDIA Blackwell and other NVIDIA architecture GPUs to the marketplace, alongside major players like Mistral AI, Together AI, AWS, and Microsoft Azure — the first large-scale cloud providers to join the platform. The move gives Armenian researchers, startups, and engineers unprecedented access to global-scale compute for AI development. The project drew strong endorsements from Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who stated, “We welcome NVIDIA’s partnership and work with Firebird to build AI infrastructure in Armenia. As a nurse and humanitarian, she risked her life to protect and nurture Armenian orphans, refusing to abandon them even when her own safety was at stake. In the heart of the Ottoman Empire, amidst fear and suffering, she transformed hospitals into sanctuaries — hiding children, healing wounds, and restoring hope. Her courage was not loud, but steadfast — a quiet rebellion against injustice. Because of their Unsung Hero Project, a group of students in LMC Fellow Nathan McAlister’s Royal Valley Middle School history class has been given the honor of writing the inscription for Emma’s headstone by the Committee to Restore the American Cemetery in Cairo. Their commitment to sharing Emma’s legacy has brought the world a shining example of heroism from one its darkest chapters in history. Students Luke Boyden, Colin Everts, and Colin Caviness in LMC Fellow Nathan McAlister’s history class at Royal Valley Middle School in Mayetta, Kansas, won the 2016 Discovery Award Grand Prize for their project on Emma Darling Cushman. They created the excellent documentary above.

Meet the Hero: Emma Darling Cushman : A Light in the Darkness https://www.lowellmilkencenter.org/programs/projects/view/a-light-in-the-darkness/hero In 1863 Emma Darling Cushman was born in New York during the Civil War in New York. At a time when few females attended school, Emma studied nursing in college and in 1900 joined the American Board of Commissioners of Foreign Missions. She traveled to Central Turkey, where she helped run the American Hospital in Konya for several years. When WWI broke out in 1914, the Ottomans joined the Central Powers and ordered all foreigners to leave, but Emma refused. She continued operating the hospital and was granted the title “Acting Consul of the Allies and Neutral Nations.” Starting in 1915, the Ottoman government carried out the systematic extermination of 1.5 million Armenians in what became known as the Armenian Genocide, leaving countless children orphaned. Emma began rescuing Armenian orphans off the streets and placing them in safe homes and basements. When she ran out of hiding places, she turned her hospital into an orphanage, which eventually held over 1,000 children who would have otherwise faced near-certain death. The war raged on for three more years and so did Emma’s tireless humanitarianism. In addition to managing the hospital and operating the orphanage, she oversaw prisoner exchanges and millions of dollars in relief funds. As the war came to a close, Emma’s efforts only expanded. She worked with the Near East Relief agency and newly formed League of Nations to reclaim orphans from Turkish homes. More than 60,000 children were rescued by Emma and others. Emma died in 1930 from Blackwater fever and was buried in Cairo, Egypt.
