Hey guys, Another hunting season is fast approaching, so clean up those rifles and make sure u have aloooot of ammo... I've never hunted before since none of my parents hunts, but I really wanna start this year, so I'm gonna take the requried courses in order to get the license here in Canada, Apparently, my uncle hunts, but he never told me about it nor have I seen his guns (I do remember seeing them as a child, but I havn't seen any of them lying around since he got married 10 years ago...), but he told me he'd take me on a trip as soon as the season starts end of September. I also wanted to buy a gun (I only own an air rifle), but am mostly unaware of the standards used in hunting. I have some knowledge about sniping weapon systems, but they mostly use .307 ammo which I've never heard used for hunting. I know the Remington 700 series is very praised, but would any of you know what size ammo would suit my needs best (30-06, .300 WinMag). I know .22 Rimfires are mostly for varmint hunting, but I'd really like to shoot bigger game as well...

BTW, speaking of T.A.T.U., I believe that they use duduk in their song called "Stars"... Anyone know anything about it???
-
my 2 cents worth: i have often heard "dle yaman" translated into "my lamentations", due to the pain and sorrow expressed in the song... However, since "dle" does means "heart" in persian, and since "yaman" IS A PURELY ARMENIAN expression used centuries ago to express "lamentation", you could also say "my heart's lamentations"... just felt like clarifying...

I was thinking of buying a router, which comes with built in firewall, but I don’t want to spend $80 on that. Is there any freeware that you are familiar with and could recommend me. zonealarm is probably the most widely known freeware firewall available... there are many positive comments about it, but i've personally had only bad experience with it, but that's mostly because i have BOTH a hardware firewall (router) & software firewall... btw, i personally use norton internet security 2003 & it's the best in my opinion!!! it has tons of additional features: it blocks popup ads, protects from viruses, worms, & trojan-horses (it includes norton antivirus 2003)... it also blocks unsafe email attachements, detects spam email, & blcoks dangerious scripts form running in ur navigator...

damnit... i missed so many names in that list, it's been bothering me 4 the past hour!!! so here goes... try some ararat petrossian (i'm sure u know sheram, he's 1 of his students...), maybe some yeghishe (although mostly popular armenian dance), yeghish manukyan, or armine simonyan (aram asatryan's dudukji(uhi)... well, let's not forget others like gagik hovsepian & ardzrun babakhanyan (but these too r mostly dance)... btw, it's funny that someone mentioned T.A.T.U.!!! download her song "stars", there's obviously duduk in the background, & it's clearly heard!!! ironic isn't it??? enough said...

dle yaman, properly translated, means "oh lamentations"... contrarily to popular belief, it IS a love-song, but with a melodramatic twist... the love itself is dead, hence the popular gravesite use... basically, komitas's interpretation entails that the singer lametns a lost love... does that help??? movses jan, i have the world's biggest collection of armenian mp3s, including ALOT of sad duduk tunes performed by a dozen of well-known dudukjis... djivan, vache hovsepian (known well 4 his "siretsi yaris daran"), hakop khatchatrian (listen 2 his "indz mi khntrir", perfect 4 graveyards, sic), gevorg dabaghian (his "aravod luso", "havun havun", & "vorskan axper" [written by avedik isahakyan] r well suited 4 ur need)... u can also try hovig garabedian (most known 4 his duduk/dhol dance tunes), lyudvig garibyan's trio (also known mostly 4 dance songs, but they do have nice versions of "aravod luso" & "sarer gaghatchem" & "hovern engan"), & mkrtich malkhasyan ("akh im jampen" & others)... email me if u want, i'll give u access 2 my ftp server with all the mp3s...

u have a point... but there r many more political implications that u have absolutely no understanding of nor any knowledge about... so b4 critisizing & adding 2 the missunderstanding, how about u run ur own campaing & c how hard it is 2 become president, ok!!!

Mkrtych Malkhasyan is very good, i have 2 afree... Obviously Djivan is internationally recognised as the most talented woodwind instrumentalist, so he deserves alot of credit for getting Armenia & the duduk on the map throughout the world!!! Then we have Vatche, may God enlighten his soul... Just breathtaking... Let's not forget Yerghish Manoukian & Khachatur Khachaturian!!! All of them are fantastic!!! DUDUKZ RULE!!!

Deep Blue beep Kasparov becuz Kasparov made a mistake... unlike humans, computers rarely make mistakes!!! i say "rarely" becuz hardware or software glitches r possible, but very unlikely. Now as 2 the reason why Deep blue won... If you were to analyse Kasparov's moves, you would have observed a slight error in his calculations, something he l8er admitted to have done... It wuz a mistake, & the computer caught it after subjective analysis of the play... Now the amaizng thing here is that a human brain that is capable of doing only 3 calculations a second is not only as good as the supercomputer, if not better, but it also shows a sense of intuition that immediately eliminated unnecessary calculations... that's the lession we have 2 learn here... n e wayz, being an avid chess enthusiast myself, i could confidently state that Kasparov is more than capable of beeting any computer chess program at least once... And anything that happens once can happen again, especially when computers subjectively play "perfect" matches every time, cuz their calculations r alwayz right, no matter if they win or loose... in other wordz, they never make misatakes, but a human can still beet them... whatever, i hope this helps

hmmm... very interesting... i'm reading every1's posts & am amazed @ the variety in each pick on every list! personnaly, i would have a hard time picking specific albums 4 such a purpose becuz, as all of u know, most albums only have a couple of good songz that make the album actually worth sumthing! i'd rather burn 20 of my own personnalized CDs with sum particular artists & their specific songz; it would b much more productive & would certainly b alot more entertaining!!! sorry half breed if i'm screwing up ur topic alittle!!!! my purpose is not 2 derail it but rather 2 take it 2 the next level... so, let me engage in my own musical taste analysis: 1) being a hardcore armenian music fan & a rabid "kef @nogh" & fun-loving partygoer, i'd definately have 2 include the top armenian popular dance artists & bandz & sum tekno-freakish armenian musicians as well... -aram asatryan -harout pamboukjian -tata simonyan -nune -rabiz -hokis 2) when thinking of armenian music, it is also necessary 2 consider the more instrumental & symphonic sides of our musical culture... we can never deny the classical forshadowing in our present-era armenian musical interests! now i couldn't possibly live on a deserted island without the comforting cries of the legendary duduk 2 ease my lonelyness, now could i??? not 2 forget the likes of our ancestral musical legendz: -djivan gasparyan -sayat nova -komitas -aram khatchaturian -ara gevorkian 3) then comes the inevitable question of the everlasting parties... i'm young & i like 2 enjoy my youth!!! i live my life, i have fun... without the hypnotizing beatz of the tekno-trance-rave phenomenon of the 21st century, how could i possibly attain the level of moral & physical satisfaction that is required 4 a happy & joyful realisation f a lifetime!!! -delirium -dj tiesto -daft punk -trance control -paul oakenfold -paul van dyk -atb -enigma -new order & all other good trance tunes like kernkraft, sandstorm, on the move... 4) now, we obviously also must integrate some variety into our musical repertoire... this implies that our tastes get stretched 2 other cultures & more diverse styles of music. arabic, persian, latin, greek, french... and yes, event turkish... n e thing goes, as long as it soundz good: -black catz, andy & some other kool teknoish bandari tunes -alabina, amr diab, & sum khaled-mami-faudel (rai) -shakira, gypsy kingz, -monaxos, dimitris mitropanos & angela dimitriou -charles aznavour, eric lapointe, dubmatique -ohhh yesss... definately tarkan... his songz arn't bad!!! 5) every1 needs 2 rock once in a while... dont u??? -creed -metallica -pantera -david usher (black black heart!!!!) -lenny kravitz -jimi hendrix -ohhh dios!!! carlos santana!!! -staind -system of a down (armoz rock!!!!) 6) now, considering the trendz of pop culture, we can't deny the popularity of american artists & their dance-pop-rnb-hiphop music... -sylver & safri duo -sash & dimitri -j lo & destiny's child (but not 2 much!!!) -fragma, elissa, ian van dal & the rest -busta rhymes, 2pac & dmx -eminem & molotov 7) local favorites & remix djs... these individualz (or organisationz) r the ultimate form of musical satisfaction... well, now that i think about it, pick n e song from the list above, let the artists below remix it & i'll definately listen 2 it 4 a whole lifetime on an island!!! -mc mario (canada's premiere dj) -dj pulsedriver -dj thunderpuss -dj quicksilver -ministry of sound these pix might seem radical, i must agree... but they r nonetheless very relevant from a personnal point of view... consider these as the point of departure 4 most ppl of our era!!! u might not alwayz agree (it's totaly irrelevant in my opinion, but u might :-)), but believe me that if my list wuz realized in the context & the circumstances stated above, then i can assure u that u WILL enjoy the time spent listening 2 it!!! that i guarantee u!!!

i'm sorry guyz, but the best armenian poem is definately shiraz' "yes im anouch hayastani..." no question about it... topic closed... although i must admit that "drdounchk" is a good contender ... [ February 05, 2002: Message edited by: HaYaStAnRuLeS ]

quote:Originally posted by THOTH: HaYaStAnRuLeS - I don't disagree with your points concerning Ataturk - and I have always admired him as a military genius and as a leader (but no friend [just an admirer] of Armenians) - however I think you fail to understand a fundemental message/goal that Ataturk strived for - Anatolia for the Turks including the concept of supression of any other ethnic/cultural identity and presence in Anatolia. It is due to this campaign that Armenians were never repatriated after WWI - and in fact through his General Karabakir - Ataturk pursued war against the Armenians in the Eastern Provinces - commited additional slaughter and atrocities against innocents - and crushed any hope of an independent Armenia in the East (and even any recognition of Armenian cultural presence there or in Anatolian history). my friend, although part of what u say is true, we must not forget the big picture... after all, he wuz a turk b4 n e thing else & he alwayz strived 4 a strong & unified turkish nation... which individual wouldn't seak the fortune of his nation in trade of the missfortune of his neighbors... even the greatest leader, as much as he may seam inhuman, cannot escape human nature!!! of course he pursued some of the worx started by his predecessors, but his goals & visions were different... in fact, most transcripts of his time show, when properly analysed, that Ataturk was not an enemy of Armenians 7 did not seak 2 annihalate our whole ppl!!! after all, armenians where scatered across most of anatolia during his time, & he wuz forced 2 confront us in order 2 realize his dream... if the geopolitical situation were different, it is quite obvious that he would in fact b inclined 2 offer a reasonable settlment 4 their feud with the armenians... he wuz a man who knew that having enemys, although weak, wuz worse then having stronger allies... now let's not get into a war of facts & figures, & let's not even attempt 2 analyse the political inspirations of Ataturk...my point wuz, just as my friend hyecory pointed out, that: quote:Originally posted by hyecory: HaYaStAnRuLeS - all the director is gonna try to show is that the turks arnt the same barberic demon possesed murders they were 80 years ago. (which we all know they are) and believe me... he will fail miserably...
