Actually Avo jan, turkish trucks can come into Armenia. That's the reason why Armenia has a lot of turkish goods, because we get shipments from turkey. I remember very well in 2006, as we were going through the mountains, we were almost in Stepanakert, I saw 2... yes 2 trucks from turkey, I forgot what was written on them, but it was in turkish. I even have video to prove it lol But yes, Russia has strategic interests in Armenia as well, considering azerbaijan also wants to join NATO in the near future.

Guys what do you think of us making the Armenian Genocide a more mainstream topic of conversation on April 24? A SIMPLE and yet powerful example, if we as young Armenian professionals... if we can ask Google to put a Genocide memorial on their main homepage (www.google.com), that IN ITSELF is a testiment to the power we hold as young professionals. Imagine all day on April 24, hundreds of millions of people who use google.com to search, will see Armenia's Genocide monument in the background of the Google logo, or even some other symbol, and it will provide a link to what happened on April 24, 93 years ago... just imagine that Google has done similar things in the past. St. Patrick's day, just recently that "turning off the lights" day (in which Google's homepage was blacked out), Martin Luther King day, etc... Elle jan barev. AVO PMed me to reply on this post. I didn't really see it to tell you the truth, so I would have replied sooner. Like AVO mentioned, over the summer of 2006, I was in Armenia for a period of two months, and I interned at the Ministry of Finance & Economy through a program offered through Armenian Assembly of America. Fortunately for you, the deadline for this internship is on February 15, 2008... so you still have time to apply. During 2006, I also got the opportunity to go with another program (which is basically like a sponsor for a bunch of internships in Armenia) called Birthright Armenia. The summer of 2006 was the last time that program offered a travel re-imbersment for the SUMMER INTERNS. Now, since the program saw that the summer is the time when most students would visit Armenia, they changed the rules... now if you were to go on lets say AAA's internship to Armenia and be part of Birthright Armenia's program, you would have to live OUTSIDE of Yerevan for the 2 month period to get your travel re-imbersment (I believe..), check the BA website just in case I might be a little off. Regarding my internship in general, the Ministry of Finance & Economy was great, make sure you tell Vram (the coordinator of the AAA program in Yerevan) to place you wherever you would like to intern, and exactly at which department you would like to intern at. In 2007, I also got the opportunity to go on another internship organized by AGBU. 2007 was AGBU's first-ever Yerevan Summer Internship Program (called AGBU YSIP). I told our coordinator to make a blog, so all the interns could contribute and put in some pictures and all... and they actually made it I worked at the Central Bank of Armenia for a 5-week period (the internship for AGBU is only 5-weeks), but I, nor any other intern in our group was part of Birthright Armenia this last summer. So just make sure if you want AGBU's summer intern program that it's part of Birthright Armenia's (I checked on BA's site, and I just saw that it in fact was, but double check just in case). In general Elle jan, I am telling you this before hand, if you decide to go in the summer of '08... I'm telling you, you are going to probably have the best time in your entire life. These past two summers, especially this last one in '07, was just UNFORGETTABLE. The things I did, the people I met, the places I saw, just the entireeee experience will last my entire life. I still keep in touch with a co-worker (now friend ) from the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA). The AGBU YSIP application you can fill out from here. Guys I wanted to start this sub-post for the Armenian-English Electronic Dictionary project, bringing to everyone's attention any words that need dire translation. This post is to find the translations for words like "Telethon," "Blackmail," etc... words that aren't found in 1940's dictionaries loool, or @ least, not in my dictionaries. Therefore, with the help of everyone, we will also incorporate these words into the electronic dictionary. Watching TV a few days ago, I listened to the word "Shantazh"-Շանտաժ (Blackmail). The word is in Russian I believe, I need an ARMENIAN translation for the word. Hovhannes jan ur es?

Armenak jan, you can download Armenian fonts from a host of websites. Just do a Google search: Download Armenian fonts, and I'm sure you will get a lot of results. By the way, since you brought that point up, I wanted to use the "Bararan" font, since it has the "YEV" letter as well, plus it is clear and concise to read. Do not worry, I will prepare all the materials for all of you beforehand, so that by the time we meet and split up the work, you will all be familiar with the program/fonts. Guys look, Elia jan angleren asem, vorpeszi bolorin haskacnem... Over the past few days, in my mind... I have had some thought, or should I say concerns... First off, a dictionary, an Armenian one at that, is to serve the purpose of the Armenian people, however, as this has been so evident, there is the dialect problem of spelling that conerns me. WHOEVER would join me, as Elia, Ani, Sip, and Anoushik have already voiced their commitment, I also need you all to understand that... naturally, anyone who is Eastern Armenian would want an Eastern Armenian dictionary, and Western Armenian - Western Armenian dictionary. Now the changing of the spelling is not a big concern, that is actually very easy, especially concidering that the majority of my dictionaries are in Western Armenian. However, if we are going ot make two versions of the dictionary - one for Western Armenian speakers/readers, and the other for Eastern Armenian, then this requires that we have to extend the work for the other dialect. So just keep that in mind beforehand, and at the same time, on a more positive note I think it'll be an educational experience for all who participate, as they can learn not only words, but the spelling structures of the opposite dialect. Regarding Elia's post... HIMA INCH Hima Elia jan... we wait until new year passes, I know everyone has a lot of things on their mind now, with Christmas and New Years (not to mention Tata's concert on the 22nd, which I'm going to be going to lool). Over there, I will go over the basics of how we will go about splitting the work, and also give you a tutorial on how to use KDWin program (which is the bestttttttt program for writing in Armenian, 100000x better than Unicode, except that you cannot write on the internet with it, only in MS Word. The reason I want to introduce this program to you, is because you can designate the key layouts. Since we are all going to be writing thousands of words and common sayings, we need efficiency and convenience for every writer. PLEASE, if anyone can help out, or if any of you know any friends that would like to help out, please tell them. This project is going to be a graas-roots effort in making a free-flowing, COMPREHENSIVE... <> dictionary for all. This will pave the way for later collaboration between other websites, between Microsoft, and its slew of programs, including MS Word spellcheck. Hopefully, we can get websites that can start online translations of sentences already... English --> Armenian, and vice versa. Yes Sip jan, I saw that a while ago. The program is in Eastern Armenian, I did not purchase the full version, because I fear a lot of the words I will be looking for are going to be missing. Download the program, in the Armenian->English section, you will see that the word "Azgaser" is missing. This is only the A. I don't have access to the rest, but I suspsect that there are also many words that will be missing. The reason why I had mentioned the dictionaries in the beginning, is that we can bring ALL of our resources together. That site, or whoever the author was to that program (and decided to make money on it... <_<) I am certain only used one dictionary. On top of which, the English used within that dictionary is British-English.

True, there are licensing and copyright laws, however we can try to get in touch with the authors of the work. Ya Sip, your exactly right. When thinking about this, I knew this problem would arise. Since your a programmer, you would know best. Keep in mind...people like me (who will be inputting all these words) need a program as simple/basic as can be, so it will be easier for us to input the words. The excel file that you sent I looked at, was basically 2 rows of information. If we do it on Excel, would that be easy for you to integrate it into the program? What about the word usage, as I mentioned in a previous post, under the example of "Baxum?" In any case, you tell us which medium works best for you, hopefully the program will be easy for us as well, for inputting the words. Also, will there be any language conflicts as to what device we use to type Armenian? (i.e. I use KDWin, others use Unicode...). I was thinking the default font would be Arial AM, since it is the most accessible and easiest to understand. However, Arial AM (and i hate this fact ) doesn't have the "YEV" letter like Sylfaen (Unicode) does. That's a problem, since if we were to write in Eastern Armenian, the Sylfaen "YEV" would stick out like an eyesore. On another note, on Saturday, once my last final is done, I'll scan a few pages out of each dictionary I have, we can look through the positive/negative aspects each author did when publishing his work.

Guys I just had another idea... Hopefully, if everythign goes well and we can finish in 2008, we can also cooperate with Microsoft Word, and give them the word list so they can input it into Microsoft Word, for SPELLCHECK http://www.dvdyourmemories.com/images/microsoft%20word%20icon.jpg Isn't that awesome? You can type in Armenian (you would choose somewhere... Western or Eastern...) and if you mispell a word, it would automatically underline it. Currently, when I type in Armenian at least, it doesn't underline every word, only a few, but I think since it doesn't understand the language, it doesn't know which word to underline and which word not to lool
