What a wonderfull surprise from harut who seems an expert in football. Yes Harut, you're right about Ararat-73 and Ajax 95-98. I would add Brazil 70, England 66, Holland 88 and France 84. France 98 is not as good as France 84. They won only because other countries were very weak and because of their physical strength. But no tactics as, for instance, Brazil 70 and their double acceleration or Ararat-73 with their perpetual movement and without ball playing and their quick moves on the wings and passes back in front of the adverse goal. I think Ararat-73 is a school of football. Unfortunately, the actual Armenian National Squad is not as technical and especially tactical as Ararat-73. Even their last week match against Ukraine is not as expected. I saw the the whole film of the match few days after the match as Suren Baghdassarian sent it to me and telling that this match was even better than Ararat-73's. I'm deeply sorry to say that someone like Suren has already forgotten the style and the play of Ararat-73. If you want me to compare, I'd say that Ararat-73 could easily beat the actual Armenian selection. How can one forget the terrible shootings from 30 m. of Zanazanian, Bondarenko, Andreassian, Ishtoyan "yev ilan"... How can they forget the rocket Kazarian with his 10"8/10 on 100m., Petrossian's moovings and dribbling like the sea waves as well on right or left wing, the half backs Kevorkian's and Mesrobian's mooving on the wings combinating with the real left and right wingers and with the center forward Markarov........ As for France 84, I think that team was the best France ever had. Holland 88 was total football of Ajax of the seventies with Cruyff and compagny. Even Greek weightlifter Dima (competing in 85 kg category) has a world record of ONLY 390 kg. Vardanian's 82.5 category world record of 405 kg is and remains for ever better than Dima's one. Knowing that Dima is 3 kg heavier than our great champion Vardanian who is all muscle built athlete and a real phenomenon. The strange is that our compatriot is the only Weightlifter in the world who can jump as high as any high jumper. His personal record is 2.10 m !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's a complete athlete and is high gratuated in science (physics, I think).

Yes, Armenia is not very well now, because of lack of competitions and that is because of lack of money. The near future, I assure you, will be better for Armenia. On June the 6, a new president will be elected. We're sure it will be Ruben Hayrapetyan, president of Punik Yerewan, because there are only two candidates, the second one being Arcady Adreassian, president of Ararat Yerewan. Everybody prefers Hayrapetyan because he loves football and spends much money for the good of football in Armenia. Suren Baghdasaryan, Federation's chief of the Press, with whom I spoke yesterday on telephone, told me that because of lack of money, the Federation cancelled the trip to Portugal 4 months ago (for a match aginst Portugal). That match would bring some points to Armenia (in FIFA's classification), even in case of losing the match, provided that Armenia would loose 1-2 or 2-3 or 1-3 ... A national committee has been formed by 8 members in which we find Hovannes Zanazanian, Ararat-73 captain, the Sport minister, the president of the National Olympic Committee, Souren Baghdassarian (Armenian Federation's head of press) and other personalities. Mosjan Jan, T'm glad to know that you are first class hunter and still are. As for me, I WAS a hunter when I was 10. Till 20, 22. After that, with Lebanese war coming, we forgot that excellent sport. I was born in a familly of hunters. My uncle was an armourer. The only one in Lebanon. Camille Chamoun (former Lebanese president-1952-1958) and Saeb Salam (several times prime minister) were his friends. We had 4 dogs. One of them was the best in Lebanon, may be in the world. Teen age Marie-Gayane Mikaelian, living in Lausanne with her parents(Armenian dentist father-George-from Lebanon and Swiss mother) last week became the new European under 18 tennis champion, held in Switzerland. She represented Armenia at that championship. She already was Europen under 16 champion 2 years ago. After that, she won Pan Armenian tennis single tournament in 1999 for Lausanne. She still is the favourite this year for the same title in Yerewan (18 - 26 August 2001).

Harut Jan, All Armenian squad players are professional in or outside Armenia. They train everyday, sometimes 2 times a day. Don't think that our football is bad. I think we don't use adequate tactic, the one that propulsed Ararat-73 to the summits. I talked about that all at the "Geskisherayin Jebntats", at the TV. Most of the Armenians were satisfied with my ideas, but certains, like my friend Souren Baghdassarian (star commentator at TV and radio) or Souren Abrahamian (president of football Federation of Armenian), didn't agree with me. I think they are pragmatic and like many in the world, they want immediat results by the easiest way : the physical and athletic way of football, as it is in Europe and the world. I'm sure and CERTAIN, as I passed one hour next day, at the Federation headquarters, to convince them, that the ONLY WAY is the one of ARARAT-73, with 2 real wing attackers, 2 lateral defenders, very strong ball kickers in the midfield and (the most important) perpetual movement, the play without the ball. I mean "arants gdagi khagh" (khagh = play or game). The most evident proof of my theory's soundness is that No 7, Arthur Petrossian, scored his goal after a long and fast running and dribbling alongside the left wing of Ardavast Karamian (No 11) who passed the ball to the centre to Albert Sargsian (No 10) who passed it to Petrossian who scored a magnificient Ararat-73 style goal. The more, Ardavast was a prolific wing attacker and ALL his attacks along the wing were dangerous. 2 days later, on Friday, Yervand Soukiassian (captain of the squad and No 2), invited me to a diner, with Arthur Petrossian and Harutyun Vardanian (defender, No 5), with their wifes. Yes, but we could and would win. You might have seen this match on Armenian TV, at 20:00 (Erevan time), 08:00 (LA time), on last wednesday. Anyway, it was a promising match with an Armenian side attacking all the time and a Polish side, very bad technically but very strong physically. May be their average height is over 1.85m (over 6 feet). They had had (I think) special training on how to hurt the opponent side without been noticed by the referee (you know, like the Argentinians or the Germans. This seems to be a new technique, and the FIFA must quickly find a solution before the World Cup in Corea-Japan). Beside, "the referee was below his capacities" as we've been told by the match observer from FIFA. As for me, I wasn't invited by anyone in Armenia. I went there because the 1973 heroes and especially legendary trainer Nikita Simonian (a friend of my father and the family) was there. He will be 75 in a few weeks. The veterans finished 4-4, with a polish side very much younger then the Armenians. Our compatriotes gave anyhow a good football lesson. Sometimes, it was more pleasant to watch the veterans than the national squad. Sometimes only ... In the match between the national teams, the heroe was attacker Arthur Petrossian. He has widely the capacity to play anywhere in the world. Same remark about the defender (libero) Sarkis Hovsepian who is the most rapid defender in the world ! Good surprise came from Ardavast Karamian who took the left flank (from defense to the wing). He was running like Nikolay Kazarian, former Ararat's left winger. He was at the origine of the Armenian equalizing goal, 5 to 10 minutes after Polish goal which resulted by Armenian goalkeeper's error. But goalie Abrahamian plahed better this time. Other good news : Main goalkeeper Berezovsky will be ther next time and he is playing very good with his team Moscow Torpedo which beat the raining champion Moscow Spartak 2-0, two weeks ago. He didn't play against Belarus and Poland only because of a slight foot injury.
