  8. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a list to try to give the Faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's incoming freshman. Here is this year's list: * The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1982. * They have no meaningful recollection of the Reagan Era and probably did not know he had ever been shot. * They were prepubescent when the Persian Gulf War was waged. Black Monday, 1987 is as significant to them as the Great Depression. * There has been only one Pope. * They were 11 when the Soviet Union broke apart and do not remember the Cold War. * They have never feared a nuclear war. * They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up. * Tiananmen Square means nothing to them. * Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic. * Atari predates them, as do vinyl albums. * The statement "You sound like a broken record" means nothing to them. * They have never owned a record player. * They have likely never played Pac Man and have never heard of Pong. * They may have never heard of an 8 track. The Compact Disc was introduced when they were 1 year old. * As far as they know, stamps have always cost about 33 cents. * They have always had an answering machine. * Most have never seen a TV set with only 13 channels, nor have they seen a black and white TV. * They have always had cable. * There have always been VCRs, but they have no idea what BETA was. * They cannot fathom not having a remote control. * They don't know what a cloth baby diaper is, or know about the "Help me, I've fallen and I can't get up" commercial. Feeling old yet? There's more: * They were born the year that Walkmans were introduced by Sony. * Roller skating has always meant in-line for them. * Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show. * They have no idea when or why Jordache jeans were cool. * Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave. * They have never seen Larry Bird play. * They never took a swim and thought about Jaws. * The Vietnam War is as ancient history to them as WWI, WWII and the Civil War. They have no idea that Americans were ever held hostage in Iran. * They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are. * They don't know who Mork was or where he was from. * They never heard: "Where's the beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel," or "De plane, de plane!". * They do not care who shot J.R. and have no idea who J.R. was.[unable to display image] * The Titanic was found? They thought we always knew. * Michael Jackson has always been white. * Kansas, Chicago, Boston, America, and Alabama are places, not rock bands. * McDonalds never came in Styrofoam containers. * There has always been MTV. * They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter. Do you feel old yet?

Artur, you're one sick fu*ker. Enough said. No joke, no just kidding, no more "bro." After what you just posted, I ain't your "bro". You may be trying to get a rise out of someone by your posting. Well, congratufu*king-lations. YOU PISSED ME OFF!!!! If you think killing one of your own JUST because their sexual preference disagrees with yours, then you are one sick and twisted individual who needs a swift kick in the head. You claim to be a believer in God, but my friend you are a fake. You think that by killing a relative who his gay/lesbian, you're doing your Christian duty? You think God wants all sick bastards like yourself to "cleanse" the world of innocent individuals whose only "fault" was that they loved in a way that was different than the way you love? You think you would save your family's face by killing a gay/lesbian sibling? You know, I actually didn't get all that bothered by you before, since I just thought you some close minded s*ithead who didn't know any better. Nope, you've crossed that line creep. Now your showing malicious intent toward innocent folks, AND THAT I CANNOT SIT BY AND LISTEN TO!!!! This is a forum...you have expressed your opinion, now I have expressed mine. Pardon my French folks, I needed to make the language colorful to get my point across. Oh yeah...Artur, God bless! Scumbag.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Aghmug: The DoC, You summed up the movie well! I loved it, but shortly after I saw the movie, my brother-in-law met a similar fate as the main character. I think in time, I'll be able to watch it again. BTW, the soundtrack is great, too. Not the one with the various pop/rock songs on it, but the score. Man, the score was fantastic! I absolutely loved it. They tried to mimic it in "Pay it Forward" but it didn't have the same effect.
  14. Hey Artur, I have a pretty cool idea. Why don't we become the new "Siskel and Ebert" for this website and review movies...in case you're not familiar with Siskel and Ebert, they were two well known American film critics who were pretty opposite, but gave interesting critiques of films. What do you say? This of course would be with the moderators' blessing...
  15. I really like that movie. It was an interesting way of saying that despite all the ugly things in life, life is really beautiful. That beauty being individually defined. It's actually become one of my favorite movies of all time. Yes, it does paint a pretty grim picture of a family. But I think the point was that things aren't always what they seem, ie. the "normal" suburban family appearing to be the ideal american family, really isn't. Actually, the gay couple living next door were the only normal ones in the movie!
