Well, this is my first post on this site and I am happy that it concerns the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Canada.
At first, I was sceptic that the motion will not pass again (it was shelved and almost ignored for the pass 20 years) but as soon as the results came in, goosebumps stepped in and I couldn't believe my eyes and ears! Truly one for the books! After driving around town with Armenian flags and a huge smile on everybody's faces, we went and celebrated with whiskey, wine and music...
This is truly an important step for us all (I think everybody knows that already) and I hope it will give us extra strength to carry this memoriable torch for all the following upcoming achievements that we will succeed in accomplishing, that I am sure of! All this wouldn't have happened without all the work and the dedication people have done with emails, postcards, campaigning, getting in touch with the MPs... Thank you all!
Now, I should stop rambling and get to my point. In two days from now, every Armenian (i hope ) will show their appreciation for the recognition that Canada has given us and most importantly will come to Ottawa for the remembrance of all the victims of the Genocide. Seeing this newly found step has come upon us, I will try to grasp this special moment as much as possible by shooting a short documentary of all the work that has been done for this motion to pass. I will attend a vigil that will take place on the 23rd in Ottawa, starting from 8:30pm until 10am, where my fellow Armenians will light candles for every single victim.
Now, the question that I wanted to ask is: does anybody know a way to get their hands on the actual video footage of the hearing that went through in the House of Commons? I tried getting it from the Canadian Parliament's website, thinking they would have some sort of archive, but no luck. If anybody knows a way, it will be greatful! If not... it's all good
