  1. hey SparklingCider, i've been using the Pimsleur language tapes. they are the bomb! the set includes 5 tapes (10 lessons total, 30 minutes each) - the dude (Pimsleur) is a linguist and he devised a very effective method to teach conversational armenian. if you're really serious, check it out... 30% discount on amazon... Western Armenian Eastern Armenian i'm on lesson seven and i've learned more than i thought i would (not just vocubulary and phrases, but language structure, as well) - my dad is amazed! let me know if you have any questions about the tapes. good luck!
  2. uh oh...what have i started?...oh, the beauty of forums thank you everyone, i appreciate all the info. all these fervent "opinions"...wow. Domino, for my purpose, it does matter what style/dialect i learn. once i feel comfortable 'conversationaly' (with my family), then i would definitely like to learn about the differences/nuances of both eastern and western armenian. one step at a time... shenorhavor nor dari!
  3. hi vahe, my father and relatives are from beirut and i want to make sure i begin learning the correct dialect (i.e., what they would understand in a conversation). thank you for the invite ...no offense, but i'm just not a fan of the l.a. area. so...maybe i'll just move to fresno! i've ordered the pimsleur tapes (western), thanks to vava's suggestion...hopefully that'll give me a good foundation...
  4. you rock, vava! thank you! yes, i will need help, because the population of armenians in sacramento is pretty low, unfortunatley...i hope i won't have to move to l.a.!
  5. Hi all, I've been compelled to learn how to speak Armenian for the last two years, but I'm not sure which type I should study - Western or Eastern? Which dialect is spoken in Beirut? I've searched for tutors (mostly online) in the Sacramento area (where I live), but I have not had any luck. I think this would be the best way to learn how to speak in a short period of time (less than a year). Not sure where else to look... Any advice/help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
