I do not know where exactly in New York you are, but there are plenty of Armenian youth there and they have a lot of social events that you might consider joining. AGBU young professionals are very active. They have something going on every month. Also there are at least 6 active churches that I'm aware of in and around New York. The one in Bayside is quite large as well as the one in Worchester. Unlike California, the Armenian community in New York is quite disfranchised "thanks" to the large number of Bolsetsis.

The old Diaspora is predominantly Western Armenian. But when you count the (Western) Diaspora please include Armenian communities in Europe. France alone has 600 000. Germany, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Poland (use to be 100 000), Hungary, Sweden (one of the oldest Armenian communities in Europe dating back to XI century), etc. All these are old communities. The more interesting question is are they really Armenian at heart or just keep the "IAN" ending on their surnames as a title.

Once it is regulated it is not anymore corruption. It is just business practice. Basically, corruption comes into play whenever and wherever there are "gray" areas in the functioning of the government and the judicial system. Corruption has this unique quality of becoming chronic and in that way substituting the system, and becoming the "system" itself. I’m afraid that Armenia is into that path.

Dissing Armenia In A Tourism Article?
gamavor replied to Dave's topic in My Visit Or Memories Of Armenia
Another factor that alures tourists is the changes in the country. They are so vivid and emotional that you can feel them everytime you visit the country. Like, Oh there was a tramstop here, or look there is a new metro station, or there was a shop on this corner, etc... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sZbtH6GFmo -
Dissing Armenia In A Tourism Article?
gamavor replied to Dave's topic in My Visit Or Memories Of Armenia
Armenian tourism is in its infancy. While Diasporans, (being aware of the situation) will not brag and drag, the western tourist is another species. I don't think Armenia can ever become common and attractive destination for common folks. If I was in charge of Armenian tourism, I would be very cautious about the way the country is advertised in the world tourist market, because if you lose a visitor due to false or inaccurate information it is for good. Besides the Armenian Diaspora, Armenia could be attractive for Christian fundamentalists (we have the oldest churches in the world and a view to mount Ararat), eco and "down to earth" tourism, combined with the modernity of the capital - some people like sheer contrasts and last but not least - Tsaghgazor. Armenia really can offer good conditions for ski tourism. Lately some of the facilities at Tsaghgazor were renovated, but the renovation simply upgraded the existing facilities to the levels of the 80's. Much more investments are needed to really attract crazy skiers, and most of the time that would be poor or lower middle class westerners who will hope to get more for less. -
There is no such thing as "protecting Armenianess". It is much more simple than that. Desecrating the national flag is an offence in most countries. Even in the freest of the freest there is an ongoing debate whether or not desecrating the national flag should be penalized (criminalized). Someone quickly burn the Union Jack por favor!

Armenia could be naturally the border of Europe. The future Turkish-Armenian border is the most suitable border between Europe and Asia. It is in our best interest NOT to become part of Europe, but rather enjoying friendly relations with the Europeans as it was for centuries. Armenia has the advantage of having perfect relations with Iran, Syria and the Middle East - although being nominally Christian, Armenia has warmer relations with the Middle East than Turkey. Armenia will benefit more if she could navigate through complex interests in the region not loosing Russia as a partner and in the same time preserving the cultural ties with Europe and in that way becoming the bridge between East and West. It is also in our best interests if Georgia develops closer relations with Europe and eventually becomes part of the Union.

Cultural identity should not be confused with geography. Armenia is in ASIA! The European project is a NO-NO for Armenia for one simple reason. European Union is nothing but free movement of people and money. Do we want this??? Aren't we the most "Europeans" all over the world. Aren't we move freely everywhere and bring our cash flow (wallets wherever we go? As far as I remember, exactly because of these "civilized" Europeans, we were in a constant move for more than a century and even before that. Do you think it is posible for Armenia to become part of EU before Turkey? Yes it is. Is it possible that Turkey would become part of EU? Yes it is. Do we want to be part of something together with Turkey? No, thanks!
-
It is nothing more than a fake call for solidarity, so dearly needed in the turkish society. Nothing more and the slogan itself is a good PR. Showing a generous and compationate face of the modern turks who want to be part of Europe. Laughable! But Europeans generally buy this stuff. We don't. We know them for too long. As to Time...I think no matter what, the Armenian organizations in Europe should initiate a legal proceedings against Time-Euorope for spreading false, inaccurate information about the events in 1915 in Ottoman Turkey.

Sincerely or not I believe the Bush administration will try to shun the resolution. If they do so, their "democracy in the Middle East" rhetoric will backfire on them. It would be obvious that this administration has no intention of buiding democracy and prefers to have Turkey isolated and keeping the turkish society in the dark ages by doing a "favor" of not legislating this crime against humanity.

The link works, but honestly I was disappointed...The Old State Dance Ensemble was way much more talented. No offence but their dancing is mediocre. I know that most of the old school dancers are in California... too bad. For example if you have had the chance to see "Hovivnery bar" performed by the old school ensemble... it was really amazing. The French-Armenians' Hovivnery bar is times more pleasant to watch than this performance. Pity really.

Not yet. The position is open. Still collecting applications It is a good way to establish a bond with Armenia... Joking aside I really don''t have any preconditions, because everything I demanded can be aquired...if the right "material" is present. If one is ready for the big sacrifice (i.e. marriage) then he/she must realize that it is all about compromise. What is important though is the Magic. That total and overwhelming Knock out that we later use as an excuse for our weakness and failed marriage. I personaly never been maried but I have withnessed many divorces (first and second hand, so to speak and it is not fun. Relieve in some cases maybe, but definately not fun. So in short, to answer your question why I'm not married...because marriage is the first step towards divorce these days.... And one thing is for sure: Amerigatsi aghchik chem amusnanalu!!! Even if she is Lady Di reincarnated!
