Going to someone's house to ask him to be my kavor. What am I suppose to bring as a gift and what should I say once I get there? Thanks

  4. Hi, I heard a song at a wedding recently and was wondering if you could help me identify it. A rough translation of the song is as follows: "What else would I want in this world, if Yerevan belonged to me..." Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  5. Sorry, can't read Armenian.
  6. I have been told that the part of my last name before the YAN is Turkish. It most likely means one of the following: handicapped, crippled, disheveled or something else horrible. I do hate it but I never thought of changing it. I guess in a way it's a constant reminder of the 600 years of oppresion and genocide that we are all trying to overcome.
  7. So is the problem with Harout or the song? The song is called "Usta Chale" which I am guessing is 100% Turkish.
  8. FOUND IT!! It looks like the name is Usta Chale and here is Harout singing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JimdH5PAOYg

  13. Apparently, (Why this kolaveri di) is the most popular song of 2011. It has hundreds or remixes and versions. But, I can't seem to find an Armenian one. Can someone make this happen?
  14. Hi, can anyone help me find an English word for "mag-ar-itch"? Or just a simple definition would be very helpful. I always heard people saying it to someone who had something good or lucky happen in there life. Might be totally off base with my memory.
  15. Does anyone know what the meaning of those string bracelets are? People usually wear them around easter time...

    Funeral

Does anyone know what the rule/tradition is for mens facial hair during the death of a family member? For some reason I thought the men didn't shave until after the body had been buried. Am I remembering this correctly or is this total nonsense.
  17. What does 'Der voghormia' mean?
  18. Ed, thats what I always thought it to mean also. However, based on Zartonk's definition above for the word vastak, SOB doesn't really make sense..
  19. Excuse the language but in that case what would a 'bozie vastak' mean?
