Accelerated Posted September 27, 2004 Report Share Posted September 27, 2004 Hey guys, the other day the CD stacker in my car jammed up so I took her down to the dealer (under warranty). Most of the CDs inside are 'burnt' backups and I have legitimatelly purchased the originals, so no probs there. But the guy at the dealership told me that they will probably have to charge me for the repair because they are 'burnt' and these are apparently not the same size (thicker) than 'normally' purchaced CDs. wtf!?!? Is this true? I also checked the car manual and there is nothing about using recordable CDs. ....there is a clause on 'non-conventional shaped' CDs and the CDs used must have the 'compact disc digital audio' sign. But I checked my orginal purchased CDs and none have this sign on them and it was not mentioned when I took the car in! ...so yeah, I told them to fix the thing but dont wanna pay the roaches, anyone else experience similar problems? If there is any difference in thickness then it is not visible to the eye and ceetainly within the tolerances of th cd player. Some of the early data cds were thicker than music CD, and so were some early recordable data CDs, so I suppose it depends on how old your recordable CDs are. (I've had a quick look on my shelf and looked at an old 4x speed one from about 6 or 7 years ago and an old Kodak photo-cd one from 5 years ago, and both are definitely thicker than today's ones). There is no difference in recordables and CD's you buy in the store, unless your recodables are very old, which I doubt they are. Sip Posted September 27, 2004 Report Share Posted September 27, 2004 Tell the bastard he is full of sh!t and that you want to talk to the service manager ... if you already talked to the service manager, tell them you are going to contact the regional manager. Trust me they will come around very quickly ... a cd changer is no big deal for them when it comes down to having to deal with higher levels up and all these customer satisfaction requirements they have to satisfy. Don't take no for an answer ... saying a CD player jamed on a recorded cd because it was a recordable CD is just stupid dude! I have used recorded CDs for years in all sorts of different players and never had a problem. I told them to fix it but never said I was going to pay - and really I shouldnt have to anyway <_< and yeah, my recordables are no more than 2 years old and the same 80min 700mb affair.
