This is by far the best list ever, without kokma, kakma and kakstrma. Look here; http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=13...p;hl=archeology When I asked in vain the question and challenged everyone to tell us what we ate before we met you-know-who, you- know-who, and you -know-who. We will in time try and find the Armenian terms to at least some of those ingredients. I.e why “chi kufta”? How difficult it is to says “hum kufta” or “kubbeh nayye“? How difficult is it to say “lits”, or if you prefer “litsouk“, “patouk” or “terev”? Edited February 7, 2009 by Arpa

Azat
Aneta jan are you looking for a flavored one or the classic? 4 garlic cloves - mid size 1 teaspoon salt - i use kosher two cans of chick-peas. regular size. i think its either 12 or 16 oz. not sure 1/2 cup tahini 1 fresh lemon juice 1/4 cup olive oil. i only use very high quality olive oil as i love it 1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves pinch of paprika mash the garlic to a paste. use the salt with it to help it become a puree. I remove the skin of the chick-peas but i think its okay to leave them on too. Put all ingredients in a food processor and puree until smooth. serve with pita chips or lavash chips... sprinkle the parsley and paprika and a bit of olive oil on top Lavash chips cut the thicker lavash we have in stores to 2 inch by 2 inch squares. brush olive oil on one side. add a bit of Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper and very finly chopped oregano(very little amount) on top and put it in oven for 5 min until golden brown. Arpa
ohh for the flavored one I love the grilled red pepper one. Just add 2 grilled or fire toasted pepper to the mix My pesa introduced me to the "roasted pepper variety. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103953/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103953/plotsummary I know how to make hummus, as long as I have my blender (Johannes said "molinex",it is a variation of the French word "moulin" as in "Moulin Rouge", English "mill"), and some people like it. My recipe; Ten tons of garlic, 5 tons of lemon juice, 2 tons of tahini and a can of canned garbanzo. Many garnish it with olive oil, cumin, sliced toamtoes, and at times ... pomegranate kernels. BTW. Hummus is Arabic to mean "muhammas/roasted", as opposed to "mudammas fool". And "tahini" means "milled" "aghatsvats", just as in that same language the word for "flour/alyour " is tahin. Some time ago, someone told me that the Armenian word for tahin is "տաղան/taghan" from the word "aghel/aghorik" to mill. Arpa
Arpa jan next time you make some of your hommus please sent some my way. Yes Azat, I will send you some as the above reicipe may feed the nation for a hundred years. --- Does anyone know why the chickpea/garbanzo beans is called “siser” in the Armenian? In the Latin/Italian the letter C is pronounced as CH. The Italians lovingly call their children "chichio" to mean "little one". So the following would sound as “chichero”; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicero Which, in that same language is also a euphemism for “small”, as it is assumed that Cicero was of small stature. Not unlike St. Paul who was also small, hence the term "polos/պոլոզ". Often the Latin letter C also sounds like as S. You be the judge. Cicer/Siser/Սիսեռ/ չիչեր? Who learned it from whom? What does "chicano" mean? Edited March 6, 2009 by Arpa
